Nevermind all I thought for sure i raised pre... -
raise pre ?

not trying to come off like an ass, but everything said in this thread seems pretty terrible so far. would be curious what others think about the hand. in a 5 way pot or whatever it is you are essentially set mining at the 10 20 level with 99 and it shouldn't be hard to fold on a very connected/drawy board like this. Raising the flop is ok i guess, but once you get resistance you should be done with the hand.
-
Raise preflop. Set mining is a great idea with small pairs, but 88 and higher are clearly going to be the best hand a great % of the time and deserving of a win on their own merit whether you hit a set or not, so set mining with 99 is too passive. 100 looks good.
Flop: 99 is still probably the best hand. Raise. The minraise isn't going to price anyone out. You are strong but vulnerable and the last thing you need to see on the turn is a card that makes you second best. Any 2, 5, 6, T, J, Q, K, A or heart could cause this problem. So protect your hand. Bet like you mean it. Try 300 to price out the draw. You gave J5 the right price to call here and that's a grave error. This would be a lot easier to do if you had raised preflop and narrowed the field.
Turn: Same as flop. You are still strong, and still vulnerable. Defend your hand with a 2/3 pot bet.
River: Good check. Unfortunately the damage of letting crappy hands see the flop, turn, and river cheaply has already been done. You gave away 3 free cards and two cheap ones, and it cost you.
Hope that helps! -
Wow, thank you jennifear great reply I really appreciate you taking the time to explain this pre flop thru the river.

I don't have a problem with limping this hand in these blind levels, and as many others have said, I would raise this flop much more. If you get any resistance simply slow down and don't plan on putting much more in the pot.
-
one of two things, raise pre-bet big on flop, , or reraise flop-shove turn.. If your wrong you just lost $1

Stayed in school.

raise preflop to like 70. dont want to make it 100 coz of ur short starting stacks. but enough to let other players think u have a decent hand, then go from their. u got a pretty sweet flop for 99. so bet close to the pot on the flop and hopefully shut it down. but as it was, raise to about 200 on the flop, u want to price out all the straight and flush draws. and u could probably slow down the turn and river by ck calling. gl

raise pre to 80

as played, hate the minraise on flop, not sure what you're trying to accomplish. I like the idea of sticking in a raise, but you have to size it much better (something in the 250-300ish range because the pot is around 260 after their leadout/calls on turn.)
If we were still 3-way, I'd definitely just check back turn for pot control. I don't really like the idea of playing an inflated pot here with a marginal hand like 99 here once they've called a normal raise on that kind of flop. I'd just plan on calling most rivers to a leadout or valuebetting the river depending on what it was. If you bet, you can get a lot of worse hands to call but it's just not worth playing a big pot here IMO. Once you check it back though, you have to call most reasonable river size bets though
just check back river as played
