  1. I realize the potential exists for a massive amount of flaming here, but why the hell do you need an M number to tell you how many big blinds you have left?

    Emm, schmemm.

  3. You're welcome to call it "Z"

  4. IMO M doesn't tell you how many big blinds you have left.

  6. Your question implies that you don't know what "M" stands for.

  7. why bother with this post? to make yourself look uninformed?

    go back to lurking, IMO
  8. M = BB + SB + antes for everyone at the table. This is important because it dictates both how long you can wait before you have to shove or fold (if you're around 10 or so) and also dictates whether or not you can play looser and take down some pots without showdown (M of 15+). Then again, this assumes that you care about playing poker correctly.

Given the tone of your question, you don't.
  9. why bother with bilnds?

  15. Read Harrington on Hold 'Em.

<span>"M" is for "Magriel" if I remember correctly.

    from wikipedia:

</span>Magriel created the "M Principle" (better known since as the M-ratio) - a theory described to great lengths in the book Harrington on Hold'em Volume II by former WSOP Champion "Action" Dan Harrington. The theory explains at which stages of tournaments expected value exists to make moves on other players, depending on the ratio between chip stack sizes and antes.
  16. What I'm saying is you don't need a complicated number to tell you how many blinds you have left.

It's pretty simple. You start getting down near 10 BBs, it's time to play push fold.

I don't need any M number to tell me that.

  20. that's all good and well before the antes kick in, but as soon as they do you really have to take them into the equation.
  21. too many peopel start shoving when they get to the magic number of 10bbs that god knows who determined, and dont even know the math behind why they are shoving and what adjustments they need to make for different structures.

its quite obvious that if the antes differ in size you need to adjust your shoving to that (something your bb method will not do).

if the structure is like 500/1k/400 gl waiting to shove at 10k chips. im sure youll last long.

  25. I would like to thank the lastfedor, skalistair and amak316 for their considered, intelligent responses.

I don't think in the single-table SNGs I play that the antes ever have very much to do with it.

Meanwhile, consistent dickheads like Joe Morneau lessen this Web site.
