I do this all the time. This is a huge leak in my game. I will get in a hand with a monster like AA or KK and know that my opponent has a set or 2 pair but I still call. Then after I call I feel like swinging on myself.

Everyone has had this problem at one stage of their poker career. Basicallly, u need to find a way to have more trust in your reads. Here is an idea: Next time u "feel" like youre def beat, but dont want to lay down the hand, say to yourself, I am really folding this hand, but then really call it. In this way, u will be able to see if your reads are truly correct. After paying off your opponent the first few times, eventually u will see that it is often best to listen to that inner voice.

thats why your a donk ......... :)
j/k bro , keep working on your game , and most of all - Trust your instincts more. If you feel your beat , go with it.
You'll be right more than ya think .
-- from one donk to another -
For me it's that pressure telling me I have to make a big score out of AA or KK. The angel is telling me "you're beat, lay it down", but that little devil is saying "it's AA you wimp, call, re-raise, all-in!"
Maybe think of it long term? I know I've blown some money over-playing AA or KK, but over the long run, I know I've made a lot more than I've lost (sorry I don't have solid stats to back that up though).
But you're right - it's very tough to fold even when you "know" that dude called with his dueces or whatever and hit his set.
At least you recognize a possible problem area for you and are willing to work on it ... so gl! -
I started keeping a notebook of all the stupid things I do. Kind of like a short personal journal. One fo the first things in there is trust your gut and lay it down if you feel you are beat. this journal is now about 4 pages long and i try to read it once a week and i try to add something to it a couple times a week. I have been ablsolutly amazed at how much this has helped me over the last month.
I started playing in January this year and had made only one final table before October. Since I started keeping this I have made 7 final tables.
Sure there are other factors which I think I may write about, but this was a big help.
Two examples happened during the 2 last weeks.
In the UB 150k about two hours in I had QQ UTG and raised a standard 3xbb. I was raised by the guy on my left and called. Flop came something like 2 3 8 rainbow, i checked and he went all in which would have put me all in.
I typed damn i feel like i am beat and he said you are. I said QQ he said bs you would call in a heartbeat, i said if i show you my QQ will youshow me your AA or KK and he said yes. He had KK.
in that past that was an instacall, but this time i trusted my gut.
And on thanksgiving day I had KK with about 20 left in a 180sng and i was about avg stack.. there were 2 limpers so i made a big raise, dont remember what, but maybe 6-7xbb...
I was pushed all in by someone with a stack equal to mine and i ran through it in my head, with my bet he had to know i was willing to go all in about 40% of my stack was i the middle.. The only way he wants me all in is if he knows he has me beat, he has to have aces. i folded and he showed, AA.
I went on to just make the money in the UB then blind out and in the 180 I went on to take 4th. Neither of which would have happened 2 months ago.
Turst your instincts, write down your weaknesses and review them often. -
I seriously am a donkey and the next time I call when I am beat I will for sure swing on myself.

laid down kings preflop? I know it's been discussed to death here but I don't think i could ever make that read and fold...maybe with 2-3 people all in ahead of me and it's close to the money in a sng, but def. not in a mtt.

I folded KK at the final table of an SNG once.
MP 3 bets. I'm on the button with KK and raise it to 7bets. SB goes all in. BB folds. MP goes all-in. My stack was about the size of the other 2 combined. I reasoned that by folding, one of them would bust and that would make me money. Since I was in decent chip position I moved out of the way to let them duke it out.
They both turned over AA and one of them made a flush. Hahahaha!
Sometimes the right lay down is as gratifying as raking a pot. -
it was the first and only time i ever have.
-
I do it sometimes, I just want to see what they had. I won't put myself all in though, and I will do this early in a tourny, just cuz i can always get my chips back.
But, I need to stop doing that.
