  1. Yes they have moved the buy-in to 500k wich was supposed to make the game more thrilling. But insread of having some of the greatest minds of poker outduelling each other in strategical play we witness them going all in with ordinary hands, then once the money goes all in we look at them ridiculously jiber jaber about what the other player's hand is and then they say how many times do you want to 'run' the hand. I understand they want to limit the variance but why have it 500k buy in if they are gonna run hands that many times, it basically reduces the game to watching flips. Maybe mainstreem fans like it but wheres the play? I just feel it takes away from strategical playing thus the show suffers would you agree.....
  2. I agree with your points but I stopped watching HSP for educational purposes when I moved on from playing freerolls. And the running multiple times does take away a lot of the excitement that comes with big pots. Nevertheless I find it very entertaining. Good show!

  3. Its obviously not good if strategy is all you're watching the show for but really, its meant to be entertainment and thats what it is. Personally, HSP is my favorite poker show for that very reason; it has interesting table banter, it isn't a total crapshoot like the WPT, and I don't have to listen to Norman Chad.

I think if you're looking for these guys great strategy and wits, Antonio, Barry, and Doyle have all written books, Benyamine and Negreanu have contributed to books as well, so read them! No matter how loose/tight/whatever the table is playing, you're never going to get great strategy insights from a TV program that shows ~10-15 hands in an hour.
  4. Yea you're right. I guess the show needs to appeal to a broad audience. And the people love action. I do think Gabe contributes a lot in terms of poker strategy with his commentating though.

  5. its supposed to be a fun show to watch, entertainment.... im sure the players get paid to appear on it as well.
  6. It could easily be entertaining and still instructionnal. table talk and antics are fun but they should add sumthing to make it competitve too instead of uselles flips maybe online vs live with points sys and cash incentive in the end for ex

  7. Gabe is without a doubt the best commentatorer for poker; leagues better than Boreman Chad, Ali Nasalijad, and Vince Van Crappen.
  8. chad pwns faces
  9. Although I do like Chad's dry humor at times, you're right about Kaplan. His knowledge of poker and the players involved is unparalleled. And being a high stakes/well known player himself probably doesn't hurt either.
  10. the poker is the same regardless of the # of times they run it. don't get why you wouldn't enjoy it.

and there are about 0 poker shows where the commentary is smart poker-wise, sign up for a poker training site if that's what you want.
  11. I like HSP and I have really liked the latest episode cause Jamie Gold looks like such a douche. I love how he played his Last Hand about ten times...donating every time.
  12. i love HSP

    goood show tonight too
  13. They do get paid $300 an hour. I am sure this is the only reason players like David Grey have appeared on the show in the past since they never play any hands.
  14. Are you sure about that? I remember someone asking one of the pros who plays at FullTilt during season 2 or 3 and he said they pay you 1200 an hour
  15. <span>"</span><span>But ins(t)ead of having some of the greatest minds of poker ou(t)duelling each other in strategical play we witness them going all in with ordinary hands"</span>

What the hell is that even supposed to mean? What types of hands would constitute great minds outduelling one another?

If you are looking for instruction, go to a training site.
  16. i love the show
  17. hsp is the best poker show out there, by far... how you can say it's not interesting is laughable. watch 8 episodes of poker after dark.
  18. you could be right, but I personally asked Antonio Esfandiari this question last winter in the Atlantis lobby, and I recall him saying 300 an hour, but, that was 11 months ago, so it could have changed or my memory is very poor.

Either way, they certainly get paid something
  19. i like the show but i don't think the poker is the same regardless of the # of times they run it. by allowing all the deals, it probably creates more action because its more unlikely they will lose the whole pot by going in on draws or races, etc. I think the show would be much better with out all the gabbering about running it several times, or every hand sammy asking if the players want to split the profit.
  20. I like HSP. I eagerly await the upload at thepokerbay every Monday since Comcast took away my GSN. I read Sklansky and Harrington for strategy, I watch HSP for entertainment. Damn I miss Live at the Bike too.
  21. Even Gabe kaplan at the end said we saw big pots that were not set vs set or st8 vs Fh (doyles at vs guy's a2 and PA j9 vs farha KQs for exemple) and its because they can just blindly gamble all in and run it 4 times wich takes away from having to really play the hands out. I agree Kabe is good for the show and all but the poker play is bogus..
