Playing the 11$+1+1 on stars last night. Ran into a couple of coolers and some serious card deadness. Managed to survive a couple of blind outs, but had nothing to combat the big stacks throwing their weight around...
The hand I went out on...
Blinds are 800/1600, ante 50 (or 100)
I'm in BB and, after I pony up the BB, I have only 1K behind. UTG+1 raises, everyone folds to me, holding KQo. UTG+1 had at least 15-20K, so I put him on a bit of a wider range than just premium. I called, putting me all in, knowing I was probably behind, praying I wasn't dominated, but I was... He turns up KK and I get no help. Out 5 before the money...
Ultimately, it may have been a poor decision to call, as I had, at best, two live high cards to a mid pocket pair (88-JJ), but I knew it was likely he had one of my hole cards covered and I was drawing thin. With a stack of near zero, I didn't have much choice. The aggressive nature of the tourney at this point, couple with me getting crap with kickers like 2 and 3 did not bode well for a good result.
Two lessons learned:
1. Don't let aggressiveness stall you from making a move. Even with two shit cards (ie: 86o) you still have a better chance than if you get blinded out.
2. KQ sucks ass. -
KQ doesn't suck. I'll push anyday, everyday with KQ when I'm short stacked like you were. You were just unlucky to run into a monster.
If you think KQ sucks, then you can sit there and wait for AA...if you don't blind out several times over waiting for it.
It wasn't a poor decision to call. You have 1k chips left, that means when you're in SB you can't even complete a full bet. -
kq is usually dominated
-
I didnt read this thrad but I just wanted to add that KQ is the devil
-
elle oh elle! I laffed...
-
sn8 you wrote more than i did? i like how you analyze what someone wrote about a play with a 1k stack eh ol el
-
huh?

I <3 KQ. KQs is my 7th best and KQo is my 14th best in terms of avg/hand in cash games. And I just realized I make more per hand with KQo than I do with AKs. WTF I suck.

You definately need to be more agressive when you start getting really short stacked. If I have around 10 BBs I'm going to look for a spot to reship a weak looking raise. If I have 5 BBs or less I am shoving into any unopened pot in LP, maybe even MP. Just look for spots with good fold equity. If somebody wakes up with a monster, gg. If you get called hopefully you will be live and you have a decent shot at doubling up.

Well the types of hands that will call all ins are going to dominate KQ so its looks worse than it really is.. Same with JJ.
You never read threads that are titles WHY 94os sucks.. You just dont play it.
