  2. Deficit! Ever heard the word? US has a giant one! Legalizing and regulating will help collect taxes from those who don't pay them.

    Protection! US citizens will have recourse if the poker sites are accountable. At present, they aren't.

    Gambling is like liquor. There are those who will find a way to do it anyway. Prohibition didn't work the first time and it won't work now.

    There are 3 good reasons.

  5. legalize weed and that will lead to legalized poker (um i just smoked a joint b4 i wrote this)

  8. I'm not 100% on this but I believe deposits/withdrawals would be processed quicker as they do not have to be cleared to go offshore. Out of the 4-7 business days it usually takes for a deposit to clear, 4 of those days are spend clearing the money to leave the country.

    It would also likely bring jobs to the US as poker sites could hire their marketing teams, CS staff, tech staff, etc... in the US, rather than in places like India, and Costa Rica.

  9. US jobs and tons of em! Every major land based casino group in the US will leap into the gambling market and produce their own websites and software. Lots of software and design jobs there. Many more marketing jobs as the casino sites scramble to get the word out about their online equivalents. Jobs for US regulators as the internet equivalent of the state gambling commissions is formed and hired.

  11. It will make it easier to keep underaged kids from playing, if it is legal in the US. Currently a 15 year old can get a joint faster than a beer, cause he can get pot off the streets. Kat
  12. Helen: I think you forgot that the republican congressman trying to pass this poker legislation don't care about the defecit!!!
  13. Hungry, I think there are also Democrats who want to pass poker legislation and that there are also Democrats who don't seem to care about the deficit. It's not a party-based issue.

  16. The most important reason is that there will be a whole lot more people playing if it is legalized and regulated. Just like the rise in B&M gambling that has led to the rise in wages in several depressed areas. Legalizing it will allow American businesses to open Poker rooms and create more jobs.
  17. How about the simple reason that it is the right thing to do? Adults should be in charge of their own finances and be allowed to decide how to spend/risk them for either entertainments sake or for potential gain as long as no harm comes to others as a result.
    There isn't any legitimate reason why gambling in any of its many forms should be illegal.
    It is entirely hypocritical to have state lotteries, horse racing and isolated cardrrooms along with Las Vegas and Atlantic City as the exclusive legal wagering options simply because they already exist. Besides, government shouldn't get it both ways, if it wants the tax revenue, it should legalize it, instead of taking a "moral" stand against it while still reaching for the money with the other hand.
