(I should clarify, I mean for online tourneys where tiem frames arn;t as fixed)
One of the most annoying things I find with tournaments is that the deeper you go the worse the structure gets, which seems really counter intuitive given payout structures. For the most part at the end of many tourneys the bb makes up 4-10% of the average stack. Because of this you find that early in tournaments you can make good post flop plays, but later (when you have good reads on players) the only real moves you can make are preflop.
What about instead of increasing levels by time they increased levels by number of players left (only done in late stages of tourney otherwise begining might take too long). This rule could be implemented when the bb was 2-5% of the average stack, which would mean the avereage stack always had 50-20bbs. Or implemented when a set number of players were reached.
The other option is increasing time between levels when bb's got to big relative to the average stack. Or just doubling time per level at final table and such.
I just think that with all the statistic available online we don;t need to use such an archaic format. -
Organizers want to end the tourneys within a reasonable time frame.

I edited so it was only online. I've pretty much given up on live tourneys having a good structure unless it;s a major event.

I know what you are saying, but online they are paying for bandwidth as well. Also, people missinterpret what this does. It does not take all the emphasis off of skill at all. It is just a different skill set. Basically if you want success in online tourneys you should be doing anything you can in order to improve your pre flop play.

How long do you feel online tourneys should take to complete?
-
4-5 hrs max and fields should be no larger than 1000

Mike Matesouw was talking about how he'd like to have tournaments be Pot limit preflop, and no limit post flop, this would put more emphasis on post flop play obvioiusly and i kidna like the idea
