  1. ok, i've been a long time lurker on this forum and today i saw this topic so i thought i'd add WHY underage gambling needs to be stopped.
when i was 16, i'm now 18.. i started playing poker (i use to play YPOOL with people like XtRaCeY) and like me she quit ypool for poker, i wish i was where she is now but i am not :(.
so 1st i got staked by a few people started to really like this game at such a young age which really wasn't good.. but meh what could i do. i coinsided to lose it all time after time.
i had about £100 in my bank account so i deposited that.. i got it up playing the highest limits i could find<this was all on pokerstar>
i had no BR Management at all so i lost it all AGAIN.
one day i decided to get my moms CC i deposited £50 lost it all, another 50 lost it all. it then got to £100's lost it all, £200 lost it all, i got the next £200 up to $1750 i waz like WOWOWOWW lets go play 10-20 which i did.. and lost it all.
i deposited again eventually over 2 weeks i deposited £1800 off my moms CC I MAXED IT OUT.
and i had nothing to show for it.
i didn't know what to do.. it woulden't let me deposit anymore on any site.
so this is how i got caught. i crept into my moms room opened up her bag little did i know that my mom was sitting on the bed.
she asked me what i was doing, i burst into tears ' i'm addicted mom i said' she said why what are you doing i told her she said howmuch did you lose i told her.
she went into my room and threw my computer on the floor.
i had my computer taken away, grounded, phone took of me and every other punishment under the sun.
my mom COULD NOT get her money back unless she pressed charges against me which (godbless her) she was not going to do. i said she could but ... she asked the police what would happen they told her i would get put in Y-O as they wanted to make a example of this kind of thing as it had been happening a lot.
    she said no.
i'm now 18 i'm successful playing 50NL and one day i will pay my mother back.
this is a true story, sorry for the bad punctuation and shit as i am very tired and cnba with the spelling
THIS SHIT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME I BET IN ENGLAND AND IN THE U.S
  2. we should stop people under 18 drinking too
  3. Well, lets be fair. I'm sure this happens to a ton of people who are old enough to play this game, not only kids.
  4. hey at least you're still donating!
  5. I'm not one for underage gambling, but this simply looks like a story of why people with no self control shouldnt gamble.

  6. Thanks for coming forward with this. For every successful underage player, there are 100, 500 maybe 5000 people like yourself who don't know how to handle finances. And as you stated, your mother could have pressed charges.

The reason the age is 18 is that, in general, people under that age cannot handle the responsibility. Yes, there are people who are 12 years old that are more financially responsible than people who are 42. But since we cannot judge people on a case by case basis - we have to pick some measurement in age to set the bar.

And 18 is a perfect age because for the most part, if you resort to extreme measures to obtain money for the next poker (or gambling) fix - who can held resonsible for the legal ramifications.

  7. no problem, just wanted to let peopl know this kind of shit happens.

  8. good stuff imo

  9. Why do assume this is the norm? I think you overestimate the number of 16 year olds dumb enough to max out their parents credit card on online poker. Not saying underage players should be able to play, but I think your estimates are way off.
  10. not sure, but i don't get any point to the post.

You are 18 now, so you didn't really learn anything other than i guess maybe you win now, but still haven't payed mom back 2 years later (even a little bit here and there would truly say you were sorry).

don't think this is a poker problem. People that steal from their parents probably would have done so anyway without the allure of poker :)
  11. so you're saying i'm unique in the way that i am proberly the only person who has got addicted to poker at a younger age and had no orther way to deposit so didn't think any better than to use my parents CC?? I think you're wrong.
and to the poster who said why did i post it, because of all the fuss over underage gambling, i thought i'd point out WHY they need to step it up and the shit it can cause between familys.

  12. Shamhawks you are an idiot period.

  13. people get addicted yeah, but they learn to win. you on the other hand, kept losing.

  14. So your solution to your gambling problem is to gamble more?
  15. lol..thank you for you're in depth opinion.

not really trying to be a jerk (like you) but what is not true about my post.

I mean, his post would have been more credible if he tried to give his mom some money back, or he learned from his problem and didn't play poker anymore, but when you say this is why underage players should not be allowed, but i still play blah, blah, blah, you doesn't hold water with me...so sorry
  16. yes you're right i kept losing over a 2 WEEK PERIOD

  17. It happens all over at all ages to anyone who's dumb enough to not manage their bankroll and allows themself to play for more than they can afford to lose. It doesn't matter how old you are. It may be true that a higher percentage of people over 18 are good about managing their bankrolls, but, if I looked long enough I could find thousands of stories like this one that happened to people over 30. What we need to do is teach people bankroll management and not to gamble with money they need for things. It's THAT simple.
  18. does your mom know your playing again? just curious.
  19. Dumbest story ever, you couldn't handle gambling when you were 16, 2 years later you're gambling again i dont get it?
  20. You have five posts total here, all on the "evils" of underage gaming. Hmmm.

Anyway, you're in luck, because both pieces of legislation explicitly legalizing Internet poker in the U.S. require age verification.

  21. I think the point is that people who are young may not have enough life experience to have developed said self control. There are always exceptions, but still underagers should be doing things that KIDS do, not things that ADULTS do. Kids who are playing this game seriously so young are depriving themselves of at least a part of their childhood, imo. Being a kid = +EV later in life.
  22. This is not a matter of being underage, rather one of you being dishonest and having no self control.
  23. The same thing happens to people of all ages. being addicted to gambling in general is bad it doesnt matter what age you are.
  24. Well.. it took a lot for you to come forward and tell your story. But I also think that you should make your Mom your *first* financial priority and pay her back ASAP.

I can't even imagine what sort of financial pickle you put her in by doing that. The worst part being.. is that you didn't even think about that part.

I'm sure you thought you'd 'hit it big' and pay her back. Doesn't work that way as you've now seen.

Hope you are practicing good br management at least... and get some help with your addictive personality. You may *think* this isn't nearly as 'bad' as being addicted to drugs or whatever.. but it is. ALL of it costs money and folks have done some pretty ugly things to get it :(
  25. This happens all the time and I guess it could be a matter of opinion, but wether it is in poker or not, this kind of "growing up" experience happens to everyone at some point or another - and if it doesnt, then f you mr. angel child. Its part of growing up, people need to learn the hard way - hope you learned from you experience. And if your self control is still that low, then I advise not playing poker anymore.

  26. LOL this was hilarious.

your mom really doesn't realize that her CC has random charges for hundreds of dollars?
  27. Even at 16 I don't think I'd have ever stole $1800 from my parents. Agree with shamhawks.
  28. couldn;'t be said any better
  29. does your bank send you daily statements? i'm sure she wouldve realized when she actually got the statement a month later.
  30. hahahahahahaha.....goooood......wish it happened more often....HAHAHAHHAAHA
