I've read on twoplustwo that we might not have 270 days until this law becomes enforceable but rather until Bush actually signs the bill which might happen in the next week or so.
Is this case? Will sites like pokerstars and FullTilt ban all American players once Bush signs this bill....or?
I would think they'd have the initiative to do so considering they would be at risk of getting arrested if they ever happen to enter the USA. Or even get extradited. -
No, that isn't even what the bill was about... The bill only made it illegal for US financial institutions to transfer money to an online gambling site.

Is this case?

I know what it the bill is about. The fact of the matter is once Bush signs this bill it will automatically become illegal for American players to play poker online. Therefore, some of the major poker sites may very well ban all American players thus fucking us all.

Alright, we should probably set the record straight here:
1. This bill does not update the Wire Act, therefore online poker is NOT explicitly illegal.
2. The Attorney General's office has quite a bit to sort out here regarding the enforcement of financial aspects of this bill. This will NOT happen immediately.
3. The PPA is still pushing for regulation and taxation despite last night's events. Therefore, this may end up coming to fruition as well.
DO NOT PANIC.
There's no need to cash out immediately; there's no need to panic. A LOT needs to be sorted out before the enforcement of this by banks, ISPs, and the like occurs. Let's all stay informed until this happens. -
Just to add to Dan's post, nobody is getting screwed out of their money. In the event (which seems very unlikely to me) that sites shut out US customers, you'll get your money back, just as we all did when PokerShare had to shut out US customers. These sites have a lot more on the line than the cash they owe their US players.

Okay, also I am just curious since I never took the time to read through the whole big thread yet, is it 100% that sooner or later this is going to be happening, or only somewhere in the 0-99% range. Like... is it, given 3/4th to a full year's time, totally over for online poker, or is it still not totally passed and done with?
Thanks,
Bfactor -
Thanks for replying guys. I hope my post was not a "panicky" one.
I do not feel my money is in jeopardy. I am just concerned as to what will ultimately happen. -
Not "panicky." Just ignorant.

of course the answer is NONONO--the bill as stated above does not itself make internet poker illegal--IT ALREADY WAS and still is!!! LOL
Anyway--to add to Adam and Dans replys--I have read the bill and it contains a provision that provides a 270 day window for investigation of ..well.. what exactly they are going to do.
So in fact..it will be at least 270 days after the President signs the bill that we will see what the results of this bill will be.
