This is for a buddy of mine. He recently won a 12K package on stars.
Are there better options from other sites that will sponsor him? Maybe smaller sites that will give more money.
Has anyone done this? Thought about this? Any info would be greatly appreciated. -
Stars takes good care of their WSOP players. Last year, the comped hotels were Treasure Island, Monte Carlo, and Palms. Each of these are fairly nice, and Palms is pretty damn expensive. In addition to this, you get a nice goody bag from them with gear and other stuff in it, and they have a party before the tournament starts with a full buffet(good food) and open bar. If I remember right, the hotel is taken care of for 10 nights, so you get a long vacation even if you get knocked out early. I've only played the ME as a pokerstars qualifier, but I don't see any reason to go elsewhere.

^^^^^^what he said

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you obligated to represent stars once you've won a prize package from them?
-
No if u decline u dont get the hotel, gifts, etc... basically the 1k u win from winning the sat u gotta use for expenses. I can tell you if your trying to get a room for 10 days like they give u its not gonna be easy trying to spend less than 1k

and, by nice goodie bag, I hope you mean, "Some of the ugliest, most unwearable shit you'll ever see."
-
True-but have you ever seen a chick walking around naked in your room with nothing but a pokerstars baseball jersey on? I don't wear the stuff, but it can come in handy. I do cherish my ElKY trading card more than anything though-I have it framed and hanging over my bed. :)

geeez nice brag post Squirrley lol :)

The simple answer is no. stars takes care of their people pretty well. I have played for them the last two years in a row. The additional 2k is worth it. No one will give you anything until you are very deep. But take it someone who's buying in this year, the hotel, etc adds up, too. Take the deal, if you make it deep enough to get sponsors, you've already cashed big, so you didn't leave much behind.
See him there,

I don't think these sites can put gear on you this year anyway, and most sites are just giving you the cash. Bodog, Full Tilt, ect.....
