  1. All you ballin or yet to be ballin poker players a word of advice. If you hit a big score or have a good year don't forget where you came from. I've heard about or know too many players who get a big cash and begin to playing nosebleed games because they think they are great all of a sudden. Next thing you know they go through the downside of varience which is inevitable. Pay yourself first meaning take some of your profit and put it in the bank, stock market, downpayment for a house, toward a kids tuition...whatever. Pay yourself first and take some money off the table! That way no matter if you continue with your success or get soul crushed by varience you will still be up on the game. Too many people have gone up and then back down and have to start over. Absolutely the hardest thing is to practice good br management bc everyone who puts in the hours will bring up those late night FTs of the 1ks, 500s, and 215s, look at those players playing for the first place prize money and think.....why not me? This happens to everyone and its natural human nature.

BR management is crucial to this and checking your ego at the door is necessary for an average player to become good. Always seek the most value by knowing your limits and if you want to take shots play satellites. Sattys by far are the best value out there. Instead of buying in direct to multiple 215s -1ks a week, check your ego, go through the grind and win your seats. Yes they can be frustrating but most of the time a descent player can save 25% off the direct buyin price. This can help reduce the impact a severe downswing will have on your br and sustain you until you get lucky again. Hell if anything, at least you will be winning which can be a mental relief from all the disappointment MTT players go through. If anyone was to ask what I took away from the 4.40s it would be the ability to brush off the bad beats and move onto the next game. It seems like I have gotten soul crushed the this past year if I get down to 3 tables or less and its tough to brush those off since people always remember the bad stuff happening than the good. Hopefully I can refocus for 2010.

In summary stay humble, pay yourself first by taking some money off the table after a big score, play sattys for value, and practice good br management.

Just a little advice and hopefully this will help someone down the road. Also if anyone consistently beats those damn freakshow hyperturbo sattys please PM me a strategy.

  3. Great life post.

    Know your limitations!!!
  4. no doubt man..no doubt!
  5. I agree here. I always here how building a bankroll is so important (and it is important) that pulling money off is a form of bad bankroll management, and I just don't see this.

Very few people win at this game lifetime. If you are one of those lucky few (even if only at the $1 game), enjoy some of it.
  6. Very much enjoyed your coming out from the 180's to the big games in the last few years.. Always wondered what happened to ya.. Gl man

  11. Great post aconsuma.
  12. satellites are stupid and you shouldn't play them unless you are already rolled for the event you are trying to satellite into. Unless you are getting tournament $ for your satellites, then they are a total rip off and just a way to fool fish into playing out of their BR's.

    agree with everythign else tho!
