This is NOT to stir up more static over the shitstorm of the capped 1D. I was about to ask this yday before all that erupted, but figured the timing would be super horrid (probably still is, but w/e).
Would you rather play one of the Day 1s with ~1000 players, thus having less mines in the field to avoid, but also having less bad players to bust out giving you less chance at acquiring chips - or would you rather have it the other way around? (more mines to dodge but more accessible chips) -
Wat? You have 9 other people at your table regardless -- there's not more or less mines either way. That being said, it's probably less of a zoo (better response time from TDs, dealer changes, color ups, table moves, etc. and less waiting in the line at the bathroom on break) on one of the earlier day 1s, so that would be my answer.
-
just because you have 1000 players instead of 2500 doesnt mean u have less mines to dodge and less bad players to play with ... you'll probably only be playing at a few different tables during the entire day and you will still play with about the same amount of players despite the larger field in the 2500 .. you are not taking on the entire 1k or 2.5k in 1 day .. it also a huge assumption to say that the 1k field is less fishy than the 2.5k field
-
I was referring to as the tables broke and the chipstacks developed. There's more breaking with more people so later in the day, you have a better chance of getting (potentially) bigger chip stacks at your table. Sorry for the lack of clarity.
-
Sigh. Ok. Let me rephrase and take out all unnecessary verbage and hypothetical reasons/assumptions.
Would you rather play Day 1A with ~1000 people, or Day 1D with ~2500 - and why?
I'm just looking for insight and reasonings. -
I wouldn't care. Because it wouldn't matter.
-
Maybe you can't read, or can't think logically but it doesn't matter. there are going to be the same amount of people at your table. The chips won't build quicker and you won't go short handed.....
-
I would want to play on the first two days, not because of the amount of people, but personally I'd like a break to review how I played and what I need to be mindful of going into Day 2 (If I was fortunate enough to get there).
-
And why do you care by the way? Just stirring up the pot again.... but w/e
-
Stirring up the pot? gfy, troll. Last I knew, this is a poker forum. I was curious if anyone had any thoughts as to whether they could see advantages or disadvantages over a particular day. That's why I care. That's why I asked. I was hoping to get some thoughts. To those that replied so far (with non asshat intentions) I say thanks.

Why do people find it necessary to fuck up any possibility of discussion on here on every topic possible?
If it's a stupid topic - fine. Simply STFU and let the thread die...and take yourself with it. -
I'd rather play 2D, because it means I've gotten to day 2?

Trick question. -
oops! nice catch. I'll fix that...thanks
-
I played 1D, and ended with respectable results.
However, It was a frigging zoo and I could have dealt without 2 hour cab line to get back to hotel, wasting entire break waiting for bathroom, getting squeezed by the masses in hall at each break, etc.
This is my 4th main event, day 1d was worst experience ever from a NON-POKER aspect. The poker was fine.
despite 2900 people playing, I was at 3 different tables and everyone one had at least 2 people i recognized (or recognized later) from TV or from online.
My 2 biggest donators were X22 Paul Mcgrill's son who i took about 20k, from Steve Zolotow who i took about 25K off of. If i didnt lose about 15k to Jeff Shulman I would have been real happy.
day 2B will be even worse i expect due as its a slightly BIGGER crowd.
what a cluster fuck by RIO on this one to allow it to happen and not be prepared. -

YES
and to be nice, he looks like his dad, however his nose has does not have the damage that x22 did to his own nose in his youth.....
And, its obvious his dad taught him because he made more then his fair portion of moves, and as a result, it was apparant when they were being done.
But yes, to your point, some woman married and had sex with x-22....how is that for a mental picture. -
This is a post I made to a similar question last year so the dates are a little different but it gives the reasoning behind playing different days and remember that the 4th fell on a Friday last year so the final day to be able to play was Sunday July 6th, 2008. Obviously there would be a few differences because of the different days of the week. Mainly if you want to play online on a Sunday or avoid having a lot of the online grinders playing with you, a topic which I actually neglected to address in the post from last year. If you want to see the whole thread here is the link: http://www.pocketfives.com/poker-for...sop-me-3020515
Since this seems to come up every year in some form or another I will do my best to remember to post an update to this when the WSOP schedule is released for next year. Anyways here is my post:
I think really it depends on what is important to you in regards to rest, enjoying the 4th and having the most recreational players.
Rankings
Day 1b - July 4th
Day 1a - July 3rd
Day 1d - July 6th
Day 1c - July 5th
Reasons
In regards to rest and no implications from the 4th I feel the ideal day to play would be day 1b which is July 4th. Reasoning behind this is that people are already eliminated (so technically u cant be the 1st one to bust) and u wont have to deal with any hiccups in the organization of the event due to it being the 1st day of the main event. Also u will get a couple of days of rest before u have to play day 2A and another day of rest before playing day 3.
If u want to enjoy the 4th and rest is still important to u then I think ur best bet is to play on Day 1A - July 3rd. Although u may have to deal with the hiccups spoken about before and it may have the least amount of recreational players, I think the ability to rest between days 1-2 and 2-3 outweighs these factors. Also I think that there will be so many recreational players that u will have a good table to play at no matter what day u choose. Furthermore, if u will have 2 days to recover after partying on the 4th before u have to play again and if u happen to bust out on day 1 then u will have the partying of the 4th to ease ur pain a little.
If u dont care about rest and want to enjoy the 4th then I would say day 1D - July 6th is best so that u have a full day and 2 nights to recover from the 4th and arent hungover when u play.
Note: Day 1C - July 5th has the potential to be a great day to play if u dont plan on doing any drinking or partying on the 4th and will get to bed early, because a lot of people will probably show up sleep deprived or hung over or both. If u have any inclinations of taking part in 4th festivities though avoid July 5th altogether. -
From a poker perspective, it has to be all the same. You still deal with 9 people, and I think in a lot of ways, you have to put the rest of the field out of your mind if your going to succeed.
Obviously shorter bathroom lines have to make an early day better. -
Too answer a direct Question.
I would rather play Day 1 A with less people.
Postivies: Shorter lines for bathrooms etc, less pros, and a three day break for physical recovery. I am diabetic so restroom breaks are more in need than a healthy 24 year old that can hold it.
Negatives: You have to hang around for three more days than normal if you advance so your expenses go up. Hotel food etc. ( If your not a rated player or comped)
I almost won a satty and would have gone for Day 1 D. Travel time easier. The overflow never entered my mind however.
After the 4th of July and on a Monday more pros and online pros playing. They are well known to us where we are not known to them.
I feel a newer player has a better chance against pros than other unknowns as most pros have been seen on TV or written books. ( Slight advantage if you use the Skalansky method for rookies) " He told a Casino owners daughter ( never played a tourney before) a system to use in an MTT and it worked! **** Read the book for the system.
So to make a long answer short. I personally would rather play against a smaller field the first day for the lines than a larger field 4 days later. Knowing what I know now after having been to the WSOP event 24. Got knocked out early Nut flush rivered by a non paired board for a boat.
Now if you play day one and can afford it you have 4 to 9 days in Vegas to go after side cash money vs playing for millions.
If your personal time is valuable then you have NO choice but to play day 1 d with a bigger field so it is subjective.
