  1. So many of you know that at this year's WSOP, everyone will receive double the chips they previously did in the past years. For example, they will give 20k in chips for $10k main event. They said they are doing this to give more "play" which would benefit the better players. However, what I have a major problem with is that more chips does NOT mean more play. That is because with the double chip counts, the blinds also start twice and high and many of the in between levels have been cut out. This is a pet peeve of mine and does anyone else think they are stupid for doing this? These people that run the wsop can't possibly be that stupid to think that they are actually giving more play...in some ways I feel like they are insulting our intelligence by making us think we are getting more play.
  2. I believe you actually do get more play sir.

Given how long tournaments like the ME are...skipping the first level doesn't effect the play nearly as much as doubling the chips in play.

From what I've seen they aren't just multiplying every level by 2, but instead skipping the first level.
  3. you get more chips to play with.
  4. I am baffled by this post
  5. they are insulting our intelligence by making us think we are getting more play.

That made me laugh. Anyone with rudimentary understanding of math should realize that unless the blinds DOUBLE every level, 2x chips = more play. It isn't much better, but it certaintly is better.

Easy to verify too: 2006 Level 5, If you have your starting stack, your M is about 9. In 2007, your M's about 12.
  6. this has already been discussed and througly examined.....you get more play.
