  1. We are still 9 handed during this hand, and i'm not quite sure, but i think the blinds were about 120k/240k, effective stacks ~23m.

"Ivan Demidov has the button in Seat 7. Dennis Phillips limps in from under the gun. All fold to Demidov, who raises to 1,025,000. Both blinds get out of the way, allowing Phillips to quickly reraise to 3.525 million. Phillips keeps his gaze firmly planted on Demidov as the young Russian tries to figure out what his next move should be. He seems to be talking to himself. His lips are moving but we can't make out what's being said.

Whatever it is, he decides to put out a big raise of his own, making the price to see the flop a staggering 8.225 million. These are two big stacks going to war, each daring the other one to blink first. Demidov now is sitting silently behind his towers of chips, eyes cast down at the rail in front of him. Phillips is riffling chips with his right hand. After thirty seconds, he makes the call!

Each player has committed over a third of his stack to see a flop of . With the blinds and antes, more than 17 million chips are up for grabs. Demidov has position and his Phillips covered.

Phillips is now the one whose lips are moving soundlessly. Demidov remains a statue, staring at the rail. Phillips leads out with a relatively small bet of 4.5 million. Demidov takes a deep breath and then announces, "I'm all in." Half of the players get up and walk away from the table while Demidov's stack is counted down. It's 9.395 million more back to Phillips, which is more than he has. Demidov has Phillips covered by about 800,000. It would seem Phillips can't call without anything but a monster.

Phillips seems to reach the same conclusion. He folds! Demidov is now the far-and-away chip leader with 35,875,000. It's a huge blow for Phillips, who now has less than 9 million chips."

Before reading on, think about what you beleive Demidovs range to be here when he shoves.....

.... He had AcQc!!!! http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/ws...mp;videoid=678 (about two minutes in).
I was listening to the bluff magazine audio coverage during the FT and was 99%+ sure Demidovs range was KK+ here, obv i was wrong.
I am not posting this to criticise Demidov in any way, as i respect what he did this year in the WSOP and WSOPE as a top ten poker accomplishment of all time, and know I am not 10% of the player that he is. But more, i just post it because i feel a lot of you will be just as surprised as me that he didn't 'have it' here. And, at the same time am even more interested now to see what Phillips folded, and also excited to see which other hands surprise me during the FT.
I think regardless of who won the HU battle, we were going to have the most talented champion, atleast since Mortensen, if not one of the most talented ever, which is a nice change compared to the last few years (No disrespect to any champions since Mortensen, i am not a hater).
Overall, i think this was an extremely strong table with a ridiculously worthy champ, and can only dream that one day i'll be there, would be such a sick experience.

  2. IF he did have AQ <---- this is still not known for sure... its what his friends said.

AQ preflop is a pretty sick 4 bet.. Now to Phillips, Ivans range has to be limited to AA-QQ and Ak..

I think its a pretty sick play but what can phillips call here with? If he has AK than he is bad.. the only hands he should/prob does have is QQ or KK

    IMO

  3. For some reason i just feel Phillips had AK here given how it was played.
