Hello, I know I dont post here much but I know that a lot of people here were going to the New Orleans event next week. Anyway, I just wanted to know what hotels you guys found because Ive been looking around and cant find anything below $200 a night, since Im staying there 11 or 12 nights that kinda sucks. Shouldnt the rates go down considering they need tourism?
Anyway, Harras has a deal with the Hilton and with some other hotel (riverside I think) but I can only stay for 3 nights at the riverside and the hilton is full... So if theres anyone out there that can help me out with some info I'd appreciate it. Thanks. -
I used to live in New Orleans, but haven't been there since the hurricane, so some of this information may be useless. My first suggestion is don't do anything through Harrah's. The hotels that are next to Harrah's have always been expensive. There are other hotels that may be a block or 2 away but will be less expensive, assuming they have opened. I would look in the area of Tchopotoulis and Canal or a little ways down Canal.
Try www.experienceneworleans.com. For reference, Harrahs is at the end of Canal by the Mississippi. -
I went to NO for new years in 2001 and got thrown out of all 3 hotels i stayed in on a 1 week trip
You can stay at hotels for much cheaper that arent near Bourbon street or Harras
Best Western was about $45 5 years ago
and it wasa 10 minute bus ride from in front of hotel to bourbon sreet
there was also another hotel Istayed at that was near the superdome for around $80 a night and in a much better neighborhood
If you really wanna go cheap there is a homeless shelter that was 1 block from the casino that i was contemplating stayin in cause i blew all my cash at the casino drunk, thank god for CC's
But all of this is pretty irrelavant because that was pre-Katrina and some of them may not be there anymore -
Just did a quick search on Priceline. Quite a few hotels in the $80-150 a nite range for those date ranges. The Sheraton is walking distance to the casino and bourbon street, Stayed there a few years ago, very nice for the money, and walking distance to everything

I just remembered the name of the hotel that GambleAB stayed in when in town for the WSOP last year. The Ambassador on Tchopotoulis. He was happy with the place and it is close enough to walk to Harrahs. Also, there is a mexican restaurant attached to the lobby that has decent food much cheaper than Harrahs overpriced, crappy food.

if you get a room there its cheap but there's no windows and housekeeping didnt clean my room or bring towels for 3 days
