Take a peek at this article:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...erms_fair.html
It's my opinion that the Terms and Conditions at poker sites are rediculously on-sided. We would never accept these terms from anyone else handling our money. Is it time to start pushing back against the poker sites?
On one site, the Terms say that you agree that play is "For entertainment purposes only" and that "Professional play" is not allowed. The penalty is they can close your account and take your money. WTF? -
Well, you really don't have much of a choice. There isn't going to be a site that gives you a fair agreement. And, as long as it's "illegal", you won't get one. If you want a fairer agreement, join the PPA, and push for legalization (and taxation that goes with it).
Really though, for the most part, you won't run into problems on the bigger sites. As long as you aren't doing anything illegal, these sites live off of their reputation. Taking your money will hurt you (especially if it's 10K), but it's a small amount compared to the millions they could lose if players pull their money off of the sites. -
All the sites are offshore and in fact most wont even tell u where they are located.....In the words of our 2nd most famous lying govt. official "there is no controling legal authority".........The sites can do what they want whenever they want and there is nothing anyone can do about it. All the bad pub Absolute got, i went there last night and the place is rolling like a dougnut....
Go to any bad beat forum and there are 50+ allegations a day that they are rigged, yet they have new depositors everyday..
The sites can do anything, live with it............. -
2008 resolution for p5's....Let's all make an effort to learn to spell the word ridiculous correctly.

You mention in the article that you "will provide the site name for anyone who asks by email." Would you mind emailing it to me
Thanks -
Done

"The sites can do anything...."
I guess that is one of my points.
Apparently, this fact is acceptable to the community as a whole, otherwise it would not be true.
I guess I am startled by the fact that so many people accept this as 'okay' without question. We tend to trust these sites more so than we would should in my view. -
Exactly why online poker needs to be regulated. It is ridiculous that sites police themseleves and can do literally whatever they want with your money. The problem is how do we change this, no one is willing to step up and frankly I have no idea how we would go about regulating it.

HalfwayCrook, I would pull that email out now, leaving them in posts will just get you on thousands of spam bot email lists. You can also list your email in ways that bots wont pick them up like xxbossman at the yahoo site dot com. GL GL

Oddly, even though the article has produced lots of hits (unique readers), the number of comments is ZERO. I think the readership is divided into the following groups:
Those who think the system is fine as it is. These people trust the sites to be honest (because of the fear of backlash of online players).
Those who do not like the terms and conditions at some sites, but feel powerless to affect the status quo.
Those that already keep their real-money balances low at sites already in fear of some unfair BS.
Those that are waiting for someone else to do something and then they will jump on the bandwagon.

FYI, read any TOS agreements, they are all one sided. The lawyers who wrote it wrote it for the business not for their clients.
According to my girlfriend who is a law school student, sometimes the TOS, if taken to court, might not be enforcable. IE Microsoft TOS to use something. I believe there was a circumstance where a normal person would not read 8 pages to use ms paint or something.
Edit- Obv applies in USA, and this is also taken out of context as I usually zone out when she talks to me.
