  5. i get the distinct sense that apestyles told less family members and non-poker friends about his ftops and wcoop scores than he did when he hit his first 4 figure score years and years ago

Same applies to insurance brokers/ insurance companies their, actually glorified bookmakers, who are laying you a price on events happening.
    In other words its gambling.
All those dicks who say I never gamble, yes you do, you gamble every time you take out an insurance policy.
  7. All about perceptions ans how we see the things...
Thinking about Eastgate, he was like we are and when he reached his goal to be financially independent, the willingness to play dropped down and the willingness of other activities begun to appear.
All remain on the self-questioning and if we search with the right tools, the true always showed up !!!
By the way we need the 90% loosing ppl to continue, this is IMO the weird part of it...
  8. Ha, well I was just telling stories about some of the people I've encountered, I'd say they are the exception rather than the rule. I think most people are intrigued and think playing poker as a career is cool. There are going to be uninformed, judgmental, and dumb people everywhere you go.

Completely agree, remind me of some of the fox lecture on pxf about playing poker seriously.... (What do we want to be ?? How do we see the world ?? What effort do we put to reach our goals ?? ...)
Poker remains a great source of income but only a few can understand, I see poker so differently now that is it nearly impossible to share with most of my friends.
I can truly can understand you now Apes !! :
"I dunno, I guess I really am strange..."
I don't think you are strange at all only IMO you are different to the majority of the people because you want to go through things at the deepest point possible, a lot of human (sometimes me included but less and less) are OK with what they have and don't want goals or big "adventure-experience" to search on their inside..
(Sure I am not at the same point pokerly speaking) but when I met a woman, I nearly never speak about poker because they don't see this as we do... IMO better to share this later when we know the person better.
Also thanks for your blog, very nice to read your adventures !!!
  11. The way I've explained poker in the past was this example:

If a coin lands "heads" I get $60 and if it lands "tails" I give $40. If I flip the coin one time anything can happen. If I flip it 10 times I could lose 6 or win 8, still a lot of chance. I need to flip the coin as many times as I can so that it evens out and I get the $60 as much as I give out the $40. That is why I play poker so much.

  13. I read the first 2 pages and skim read the rest. There seems to be a lot of repetition, particularly where people are saying there's a straight forward distinction between a balanced lifstyle and an unbalanced one. Personally I think it's a sliding scale with 2 theoretical extremes. If we give everything that pops up in our lives a little attention, we are 'spreading ourselves too thinly'. However if we focus exclusively on one thing we neglect so much!

There is no magical balancing point. Somewhere in the middle of these two extremes we are making a proportional trade off between excellence in a field and variety of experience. I do however believe though that many individuals can find their optimal point along this scale as it's not a case of directly proportional trade offs for all. Unfortunately though I also believe that a large proportion of us (myself inc. atm) either don't know where that point is or can't discipline themselves to maintain it.

I think it's also important to note that (imo) those who can both find and maintain the balance of life and poker are not free of the constant pull in either direction. They are simply more in tune with what they 'should' be doing and when, in order to be content. And as a result are happier people because, more than anything else, they implement what they know to be right for them.
