  1.

The first response of many folks to the Justice Department’s recent crackdown on online poker was, “Doesn’t the government have anything better to do?” I find this reaction puzzling. What could be a more essential function of the state than to undermine public confidence in the market?

  2. GE getting a 3 billion tax refund after paying 0 taxes seem like a better case in my opinion. At least poker players payed taxes!

Plus I doubt this helped my confidence in any market knowing that the DOJ can shut it down and seize accounts where my money is being held.

  4. lol me too! I was high and didn't notice the link to the article and was just going on the brief statement quoted. But yes i completely agree hope the "poker community" recognizes that simple solutions are the answer to these types of problems. There already are laws in place that would protect online poker and there is no need for congress to regulate it. The customer and free market will hold companies accountable and the unreliable poker sites would get weeded out due to lack of confidence in there system. Representatives like Senator Frank are right when they say that citizens should have the freedom to spend their income on gambling , but his solutions to the problems are a JOKE!

  5. Oh were to begin. We can drink alcohol, which can be extremely addicting. We can watch pornography online, extremely addictive. We can sniff glue, eat fast food, drink mountain dew, smoke cigarettes, eat Twinkies, eat till we are too fat to move, and play X-Box live. All of these things can be addicting, just ask a "BLACK OPS" or "HALO" widow. But we can’t play online poker because it is addictive? Tell me I am wrong but isn’t there a level of hypocrisy here? We pay our taxes on all our winnings, we start and fund multiple charities, we contribute to our local communities, and a lot of other things. But we can’t play because playing online poker doesn’t contribute to “society”. But we can play, drink, eat, and smoke till we die? I don’t understand this at all. Time to stop the BS, un cage the tiger that is the poker industry, and regulate us for goodness sakes. Online poker would be safer with bars to keep underage children from playing and those who get too addicted help when they need it. But we can’t because it is immoral, doesn’t contribute to society, and is addicting? Really…. This is the United States of America; I didn’t go overseas to fight for this country so that our corrupt Congress can make their biased, personal views into law.
