1. If this has already been posted or is in another thread, please move it appropriately. Thanks.

Many of you in PPA have received an email suggesting to do this. Whether you are or aren't a member, please do the following to help our cause:

Please fill out this form to the Obama Transition team and tell President-elect Obama that once in office he should immediately turn back the UIGEA and other "midnight rules" issued by President Bush.

    http://change.gov/page/s/contact

I also added a few sentences including some of the highlights listed below. Obviously, the UIGEA is now "finalized", so re-word accordingly:

The federal agencies responsible for our nation’s economy should not be focused on Internet poker regulations.
Finalization of the UIGEA rules will add additional burdens on our already crippled financial systems.
Internet poker is a game of skill and form of recreation for millions of Americans; it should be exempted from the UIGEA.
Please do not finalize the UIGEA regulations until their impact on our banking systems and average Americans has been fully studied.

  3. I sent my own version of a letter to the Obama administration as well as the 2 senators from my state.

I STRONGLY URGE everyone to email their senators as well because they will play an integral role in getting the UIGEA finalization overturned as well.

    Thanks

Sigh, we need a viable third party here in the USA.

  8. don't worry, fratzner is gonna start a Republican/Libertarian hybrid party. Basically where I take all the shit I like from both sides. I have always identified with the Republican party, but this is BS, and something needs to be done. I don't identify on 90% of the issues with democrats so there is no way I can switch over. But the libertarian party has very good views on less government control in the country. The problem being they have real viable plans to fix any of the problems in this country, and they want to legalize every drug ever. Sorry pot heads it's not gonna happen.

Checks and Balances aren't party specific, they are branch specific and are really the way that no single branch of government oversteps the limits of their jurisdiction.

  15. I'm not sure if you had a letter attached so I created my own. I borrowed the bold writing from thechemist83 and added my own. I welcome people to make ammendments to my letter and send it. This is clearly important for everyone, so please send a letter.

    Here is what I wrote:

I believe that it is the duty of President-Elect Obama and his administration to turn back UIGEA and other “midnight rules” issued by President Bush. President Bush has seemly made it his goal as President to infringe on the civil liberties of Americans. Be it with the Patriot Act, UIGEA, or any number of legislation passed by the current president, Americans rights are being trampled on.

The federal agencies responsible for our nation’s economy should not be focused on Internet poker regulations. The finalization of the UIGEA rules will add additional burdens on our already crippled financial systems. Our country does not need to continue in a downward spiral with poor and unlawful regulation. Please do not finalize the UIGEA regulations until their impact on our banking systems and average Americans has been fully studied.

Internet poker is a game of skill and form of recreation for millions of Americans; it should be exempted from the UIGEA as a game of skill. Poker is very much like the stock market. It is a game of partial information. You study and gather as much information as you can before making informed decisions. Making the best decision may not always lead to the best result due to laws of variance, but in a vacuum and on a long enough timeline making the best informed decisions with yield the greatest outcome. I would not advocate anyone to buy and sell stocks at their own leisure without studying the market and consulting a broker. I do not, however, have the right to tell them that they cannot do this if they so choose. The answer to this solution is in education, not prohibition.

Even if one is ignorant to the aspect of skill and believes the game of poker is bad for the youth, that does not give them right to take the decision from people as to whether they would like to responsibly play poker in the comfort of their own homes. People abuse basic things for many reasons – people over eat, consume too much alcohol, smoke, mishandle firearms, and make poor decisions with their money. This, however, does not give the government the right to ban fatty foods, alcohol, tobacco, guns, and decided which purchases an individual can and cannot make.

The argument that underage children are still playing poker is also an illogical argument. If the internet sites can restrict people under the age of 18 from viewing pornography, buying a gun, buying/watching an R-rated movie, etc.., then certainly this can be regulated too. This argument also sets a dangerous precedent for everything on the internet. Anything that can be regulated by law or social standards that are available via the internet would then be subject to the same claim that ‘people that are prohibited from accessing the material would be able to find a way’ and that the entire internet should be banned.

The trampling of rights as Americans needs to come to an end. The last eights years our civil liberties and the US Constitution has been viewed as a list of suggestions instead of the core values that separates America and makes us great. The Obama campaign was run on change and the notion that America is the greatest country in the world. America is the freest country where anything is possible. If you have as much conviction in these ideals as you campaigned, then I know you will restore these freedoms to Americans and the many more that endured to give us these rights.

  16. The Republicans obviously care more about imposing their idea of morality than keeping Govt out of our daily lives, which is supposedly at the core of their belief system. E-mail sent, even though "my" senator Pat Roberts is staunchly conservative and Rep Dennis Moore is already on board as a supporter.

  17. Here's mine - feel free to copy and paste of you would like (though you should proof read it first - I'm a numbers guy, not a letters guy!).

    -----------

Please overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) as well as other laws/acts that were carelessly pushed through by the previous lame-duck administration. Even after finalization, the UIGEA remains unclear on the definition of "Unlawful Internet Gambling" while putting the burden of enforcement squarely on the shoulders of our struggling banking system.

The issue of internet gambling should be taken very seriously as it will set a precedent for how personal freedoms will be policed when related to the internet.

Regardless of your personal stance on this particular issue, the fact remains that the previous administration finalized an insufficient act that is vague and complicated to enforce that may have a detrimental effect on US citizens that aren't even aware that Internet Gambling exists. With that in mind, I strongly urge you to overturn the UIGEA that was carelessly finalized by a lame-duck administration.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
