    I have (and so have many) noticed a recurring theme in letter responses from Senators and House Representatives who oppose Internet Wagering, <SPAN class=normal-h><SPAN>Internet gambling has become too easily accessible to minors and it violates state laws.</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN class=normal-h><SPAN> </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN class=normal-h><SPAN>This, when these letters are received needs to be addressed in an immediate reply, both by e-mail and printed and mailed. I received the same initial response from one of my Senators and my Congressional representative citing this same uninformed reply.</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN class=normal-h><SPAN> </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN class=normal-h><SPAN>Now, how to counter this is simple and easy.</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN class=normal-h><SPAN> </SPAN></SPAN><SPAN class=normal-h><SPAN> </SPAN></SPAN>

    These companies are though offering wagering on skill games right next to adult games and there is NO outrage or even efforts to stop THIS activity.
    Department stores are selling wagering games to children and there is no outrage here nor efforts to curb this. </SPAN><SPAN class=normal-h> </SPAN>

    Thank you for contacting me about Internet gambling. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this matter.

    Internet gambling websites operate primarily from foreign countries, even though the majority of customers are Americans. However, placing bets online violates state law; to date no state has authorized people located in the state to place bets with offshore websites. Federal laws also reinforce state gambling laws. The Illegal Gambling Businesses Act, the Travel Act, and the Gambling Devices Transportation Act all transform violations of state gambling laws into federal crimes.

    In addition, an amendment was added to H.R. 4954 (the Security and Accountability For Every Port Act) that would prevent the use of certain payment instruments, credit cards, and fund transfers for unlawful Internet gambling, and for other purposes. The Senate and House passed H.R. 4954, and President George W. Bush signed it into law (P.L. 109-347) on October 13, 2006.
