I know that this bill was introduced 5 or 6 months ago. What kind of timeline and schedule does this bill have from here?
Anybody have an professional/unprofessional opinion on whether or not this has a chance to pass?
Just curious. -
HR 2610 has 21 cosponsors now, including Rep. John Conyers, the House Judiciary Committee Chairman. In many ways, it has a better chance of passing than the Frank bill (HR 2046, IGREA). One is that it's not drawn the ire of the NFL, as it contains no language about sports betting at all. Also, as it's limited in scope, perhaps some politicians who don't care for voting for all-out Internet gaming will go along with skills games only.
I think it has a chance to pass. I met Rep. Robert Wexler in October at the Fly-In. He's enthusiastic about this, as are many other legislators. The trick is that WE need to keep making noise in support. Rep. Barney Frank recently stated that Congress needs more letters from us, so please keep writing. Also, get your friends and family to write (or get them to allow you to ghost write for them).

There really isn't a timeline. Right now, it's awaiting more cosponsors. Once that happens, it will get a committee vote and will proceed from there. Our goal is to help build the support by letting politicians know that we care about our freedoms.
If every P5s regular poster wrote this month, we'd be heard loud and clear. Hopefully we can all invite everyone else to visit here to get involved in the fight. -
As always, thanks TE.

How do you get this info out to more poker players willing to help tho? Such a small % of online players actually post or read P5s 2p2 and the like. I talk to some ppl about it. but for the most part. 99.9% of the ppl I talk to about poker are already on this site lol.
Do we have a generic template we can print out to hand to ppl about this? Kind of a brosure on why poker isnt gambling and about the legislation and who to write to? -
talk in your local bars, casinos, etc. a manager at my local "cheers" plays poker and 6 months ago I got him to sign up with the PPA by talking to him about it. talk at local home games. shit stand on the side of the road next to the 'jesus freak' with a sign that says 'life is a gamble'.
lots of people play poker. if you ever hear anyone talk about poker or casino, butt in and mention PPA and let them know our rights are being getting ready to be violated. then show them your PPA card and ring key chain.
speaking of ring key chain emblem. mine just busted. when I donate again this year, can i get a new one TE?
