1. Very proud of my home state! Hopefully this is contagious and we see a few more states in the near future pass similar legislation!

  4. It's a step in the right direction. Believe it or not there were many many poker players advocating via twitter Facebook email snail mail and phone. Get involved it helps.

  5. "The bill would allow gamblers in other states to place bets in New Jersey as long as regulators determine such activity is not prohibited by federal or any state's law. It even has provisions for allowing people in other countries to play, although federal law would have to be changed before that could happen, Lesniak said."

A majority of states don't ban online poker. Or are the other states that he mentions just NV and DE who have already passed similar legislation?

  6. Haha Gags, I'm right there with you. I may even end up there at some point, though probably not real soon.

Hookey, good questions. I think there's a lot to hash out. If people in other states can play, that'd obv be amazing. But I guess what will happen is that each state will want to set up their own structure to make sure they maximize their own tax revenue. The good news is that if it looks like NJ can put other state players on their sites, other states will probably rush to do something about it. Hopefully that something won't be just an outright ban

  9. Never been to Jersey, I'm sure I would love it.

Tell me if I am wrong, but I don't see "mega" sites like Stars, FTP, Party etc., with ROW players being available in the US for a long time. If ever! Nevada's law actually prohibits them from coming back. How will we even approach the kind of traffic they have. And how will ROW players be able to play? And again, tell me if I am wrong, (cause I hope I am) but wont networks like Merge, Revolution, Winning (&/or all of their skins) have to apply for license? From what I see in Nevada law they wont be allowed anyway. I mean if the networks serving the US now are making money now from US players, they have to be freeking out over this. They lose US players then they are forced to compete with the ROW big boys. GL with that! Hey, I am not big fan of these sites anyway, but there is at least enough traffic to offer regular play with some decent (ok) payouts. Imagine if they were allowed to come out of the shadows. What I see coming is ring game shark pools and MTTs that cancel with out enough players.

Again, if I am wrong tell me, but what I understand is that Casinos will basically "take over" the business. (After "moving out" competition) Several are already in position to start up with "free sites" they have been offering for some time. Will these sites network up or will they be stand alone? This may be cool for a while in Jersey & Nevada but I just have a bad feeling about where this will end up for us fly over people. I mean, it could be great, in several years. But I see it quickly squeezing out what we have left now.

Ok so here's my fantasy. Poker Stars eventually realizes they have been screwed by the US government and decides to fight back. They convince others that they are being screwed as well and they join PS in the battle. As I understand it, Stars "settled" with the DOJ with out admitting to any wrongdoing. Mostly because it is not clearly established that they did anything wrong. AND NOW, the US is establishing laws and regulation that seem to allow ONLY US competition in the marketplace. A marketplace that IMO, Stars (and others) created and has been unfairly banished from. At some point state and federal government decides they don't have to actually run/control everything and invites foreign competition back in. Set up strict rules/laws to tax it, fine! Regulation & oversight, sure. But let the worldwide free market system work. Here!

I know, that's crazy, too old school. Free market, what's that?

  10. Hey G2 don't bother yourself with the details. To get ROW players think today's horse wagering para-mutial betting. Apply that to ROW players on a NJ based poker site and away we go. btw Pokerstars is in talks to purchase an Atlantic City casino. Screw Nevada, they got Trumped literally. Hope that helps.

So, you think significant numbers of ROW players will be drawn to Jersey Casino poker sites to play with residents and visiting tourist? I mean hopefully it will spread across the land, but it's going to be a while IMO. In the mean time, the states that are stepping up are actually establishing that the sites we have now, will have to apply for licensing to operate. Rendering them officially outlawed until they are approved. Am I wrong about that?

Anyway, I just want to be able to play safe and secure on large sites like we used to. And I want open competition in the market so I have choices if I am not satisfied.

I hope you are correct in suggesting that Stars possible purchase of a US casino is a back door for them.

Think they would get screwed with taxes if they did that, but also think the ROW and US pools aren't being mixed any time in the near future, although hope this is different personally.

  16. I agree maybe 12 plus months before you see Jersey players playing, then shortly after players from other states on the NJ sites. They'll probably chew on that for a year or two then think about ROW players. I'm obviously speculating. One thing I'm wondering about is the hands per hour limit, since you can't multi table cash or tournaments at a brick and mortar, will online multi table be allowed?

no doubt you will be able to imo. The whole reason for the FTP/Stars/AP shutdown was because the US govt wants to tax and regulate the market. Wouldnt make any sense in terms of profits to let players play only one table at a time..

I'm not trying to be mean, but there's too many ways of getting information for you to be this ignorant on a topic you write paragraphs on. Raymond Lesniak, the NJ Senator who led the way on this bill specifically altered it to allow PokerStars in, and he even publicly stated that he "looked forward to having PokerStars, the world leader in online poker, make Atlantic City their US headquarters". This was followed by PStars anticipated purchase statement of buying an AC casino. While this is not just a bill for PokerStars, it certainly is welcoming them in, so please try to read a little before you make silly tirades.

There are only 2 obstacles left for PokerStars. One would be the NJ gaming commission, who I don't know enough about to judge their independence or attitude, and the other would be Farenkoph and the Nevada goons trying to use the US Congress to invoke Article 1 section 10 of the US Constitution to prohibit any state or international compacts by New Jersey. I expect neither of these 2 obstacles will block to eventual return to the US of PokerStars.

  19. Well, I don't give a sht if u think I'm mean or not, but you should learn how to read, anything! Then you wouldn't go off on the only silly tirade I've seen in this thread up to the point that you brought one. What part of the quote from me has anything to do with your rambling nonsense? I am aware that Stars is in negotiations to purchase a Casino in Atlantic City, who isn't. In a previous post in this thread I referenced the following;

"In Nevada, there was one unfortunate amendment to the bill in the days before it passed. A provision was added that prevents operators that previously offered Internet poker from being licensed or from being a software provider to licensees. This would block companies such as PokerStars from even applying for a license in Nevada or from partnering with a casino that is seeking a license. This measure could decrease competition among sites."

You must have a brain the size of a walnut. Pay attention moron, I said I don't want to appear mean by pointing out the obvious that you're an imbecile, I never said you were being mean. And we're talking about the New Jersey bill, not Nevada, hence, all your pleonastic diatribe was completely baseless, because New Jersey specifically wants PokerStars to make Atlantic City their US headquarters. Most people know that, which makes your first post completely idiotic. We all know Nevada is the enemy when it comes to pokerstars, that's old news.

You're way behind the times boy, and I'd say try to learn something, but I don't think you have the ability for cognitive thought, so why don't you take your prescription medication, and leave threads like these to the adults.

  27. Is Chris Christie overestimating the take from online gambling in New Jersey? According to Business Week, "Governor Chris Christie is betting New Jersey's new online-gambling law will propel an 85 percent jump in casino-tax collections next fiscal year. He faces a skeptical group of analysts and lawmakers. The governor's 2014 budget anticipates a $1.2 billion market from Internet bets in its first year. Analysts at Moody's Investors Service, Deutsche Bank AG and Bloomberg Industries all say that sounds too optimistic, with their estimates ranging from $250 million to about $850 million. "

Stars MIGHT come back to New Jersey. It needs to finish its purchase of the Atlantic Club, apply for an online gaming license, have that license approved and granted, then launch a site. That could just be in NJ and in no other states too. It MIGHT also come back to Nevada, but it remains to be seen with whom and whether it would be called PokerStars or something else. 2013 is possible, but could obv take longer.

  30. Pretty sure the feds carve out for PS is in place and ready, waiving them from the 'operating in the US post UGeeah law" which they broke, but kissed and made up for...so, green lights for states..right?

I think ROW's will totally be allowed...they want to tell US where we can and cant go..they dont care about the THEM...(hell, they got thier moneys!!)

But ya know, governments are getting hip and want to start taxing..so who knows how conveluted and flusterclucked its gonna get..

Bottom line, an US only pool? NICE, that'll work, we'll take it...we'll have a mil logged in all day long
