Dear Mr. Gillis,

Thank you for contacting me with your support for exempting games of skill from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA). It is helpful to learn the views of my friends and neighbors in Tidewater, and I appreciate having your input.

Like you, I believe that internet gambling lacks adequate protections to prevent underage participation as well as protections for those with excessive gaming habits. I understand your concern with not allowing games of skill, such as poker, to be played online and I recognize that millions of Americans enjoy playing poker online or in a casino, each and every day.

Before I was elected to Congress, UIGEA was passed against the behest of our nation's financial institutions that warned the law was overly broad and burdensome. During last year's Congress there were several bills introduced, which excluded poker from UIGEA while providing for sensible regulation of the industry. Should the 111th Congress consider these or related bills, please know I will make certain to factor your recommendation into the decisions I make.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please feel free to call on me in the future if I may be of service to you or your family. If you would like more information about the issues I am working on in Congress, or if you would like to sign up to receive my monthly e-newsletter, I encourage you to visit my website at www.nye.house.gov.

Sincerely,

Glenn Nye
Member of Congress
