  1. Are there some states in US where its illegal to gamble online? Because I read somewhere that it is illegal to gamble in California and Washington, but I have come across players from these states.
  2. It is pretty interesting when you talk of US states. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 short for UIGEA, makes it illegal for online gambling sites to accept funds or wagers from the United States if the underlying gambling activity violates existing federal, state or tribal law. The law does not make the player liable in any way, but makes the site liable for accepting funds or wagers associated with illegal Internet gambling. As an online poker player located in the United States, you are not violating the UIGEA or any other federal law, but you may be violating state or tribal law depending on the laws of the state or Native American Reservation where you are located.

There are a handful, most notably Washington State, but no state has ever arrested anyone for playing.

  4. And this is only because a player liable is not in any way according to law ,but the website or online poker rooms is liable for accepting deposits funds associated with illegal Internet gambling.
  5. Simply put together, verify your state gambling laws from gambling-law-us.com before you are going to start online gambling. Look out for websites that accepts US players.
  6. The issues and arguments around the question of whether playing online poker violates a state law or not are very complex. I wrote a very long, admittedly, post about the subject. It is stickied at the top of this forum.

The only answer to this question that can be given in a short post is this: no one knows for certain.

If you want to know why no one knows for certain, you have to read the long posts, sorry.

I checked gambling-law-us.com and it's a pretty comprehensive site. As such they have not mention any “US” friendly website? I read some thing about pokerstars. Can I get some more information on where a US “citizen” can play on with safe transactions?

We're trying. There are bills in both the U.S. House and the Senate.

I know its been a years ago since US is pushing to legalize online poker but UIGEA don't have a reasonable statements to prove on how they will terminate it in US.

True. UIGEA is poorly crafted. That's why we're still playing. Unfortunately, the DoJ continues working against us. Our opponents have not given up, either. If we let up, they'll be back in Congress with more anti-poker bills.
