WSOP inches away.......

By Flipassassin - May 17 2009, 09:42 PM

Hello everyone.  I just finished playing a WSOP  Super Satellite on UB and had the dream snatched away at the last possible moment.  I have never played in the WSOP, hell i've barely seen Vegas.  But I planned a vacation the week of the series and I'm bound and determined to make it.  After what has happened these past 30 min, I feel as if my dream was dangled in from of my eyes and then ripped away at the very last moment.

I've qualified for this satellite each of the past 3 weeks with no success at all.  Not due to my play, just bad dumb luck.  This week, I qualified again for about $40-50 (it was a rebuy so i dont remember exactly).  Early on, I picked up AA vs KK and doubled up rather quick.  From there, I picked good spots and chipped up til we played two tables.  Had a couple scary moents but all and all, good play = more chips.  Started to think I had a chance once we made the final table.  2 spots available and 1500 for third.  Just to make it that much more difficult, I had Roothlus, P0ker H0, and Sowerss all at the table with Sowerss and H0 the two to my left.  I kept a very tight image and picked my spots when i felt i had the advantage.  Won two big races against Sowers early on and against Roothlus with 4 left.

I sincerely hope none of you go thru what happens next.  We're three handed and are guaranteed $$$, but we're really only playing for the WSOP.  For the most part we were pretty even in chips the whole time until I got it all in with 77 against AJ.  I hinged my WSOP on a coin flip and came 5 cards away from the dream ive worked 5 years to get to.  I even outlasted 3 outstanding players but could not fade 5 cards.

Too all who read this, ty for hearing my story.  I dont want any sympathy, just an outlet to vent my frustation and hope I have a better story to tell down the road.

Tough one.  Without knowing how the hand pre-flop transpired and what your ranging of opponents was, I can't say if you made the right push or could have picked a better spot.  But I'm guessing I would have made the same play.  I can't imagine anyone ever won a major tournament without surviving a coin flip or 2.

I can commiserate with you.  Two years ago, I was in $215 WSOP satellite on UB (won my buy-in the night before in a Super-Satellite).  I rallied from being down to my last 800 chips to the final 4.  First two got WSOP buy-ins.  On my last hand, I spike a set on the flop, go all-in and get a caller from the big stack with Ace-High.  He gets running spades to hit his flush.  I got $1200 for finishing fourth, but will always wonder "What if?" had my set held up.
