November 2008 - Posts

  • A good score

    By lukaluka05 - Nov 30 2008, 11:53 AM

So I decided to start putting a little more MTT volume in. Doing 6-8 tourns a day isn't much, but I've liked the schedule and throwing in ring OHL. Yesterday I played 14 MTTs, which didn't go well for the most part. 1 Min cash in the FTP 11 PLO Rebuy but I took second in the FTP 33 PLO Rebuy for 2.2k. On to the final table.....

Weird stacks set up. 4-9th had 15k-20k, 2/3 (including me) 60K, and first had a huge 240K+. Blinds were 600/1200 to start so five of the stacks had 13-18bbs. Anyway, the big stack is open raising everyhand which is a profitable strategy because the shorties don't want to bust and want other shorties to bust and move up the payout ladder. Eventually the shorties are blinding off and make stands and reshove on the big stack. Sickly the big stack is sucking each one out. I mean its PLO so there is lots of variance but he is flopping drawing to two outs and hitting. So after he sucks out 5 players we are 4 handed at 28k, 60k, 60k, and 480k. I start to play back now that we 4 handed and I'll at least get 1k. I flat call some raises by him and check raise him twice. I get up to 110k. Then I swing down to 60k again missing a draw on the guy and calling another PSB open. The shorty busts and we are 3 handed. Then big stack opens on button and I fold and BB shoves, big stack calls with 101054 and he against QQ8x. comes xxx10 for another two outer. Guy was running sick. HU I have 60k to like 500k or so. I get up to 120K and then I lose AIPF when he opens and I reshove with AJ64cc. Not a strong hand but obviously a guy opening 100% of pots I feel this is the best hand and I won't be blinded off. He reshoves with Q1097cc and I lose.

My other tourns didn't go well, I money bubbled FTP 26 HA with AJss vs 88.

A key hand from FTP 75$ OHL. Up to 5k in chips and I raise with AA64cc and two callers. Flop is Q,10,8dd and BB checks, I check and button bets 2/3 pot. Does he have st8? It's a drawy board and I decide to call since pot is still small. Turn is 8c giving me NFD and aces up. Now BB bets half into pot, this is strange to me. I've seen this guy play way too many hands. Did he call with an 8? I call the halfpot bet and the guy behind does as well. River makes board Q,10,8,8,8 giving me a fullhouse. Now the BB checks, okay, so he didn't just check quads obviously and I'm not worried about a st8 or flush. I bet half pot and button thinks a little then shoves. BB folds. Now I don't like this at all. But it is 1k to call 4k pot. He doesn't have the 8, I mean, checked to him on flop he bet the 8 and hit runner runner quads? Unlikely. So that leaves QQ and 1010. I call and he shows K10109. I mean that is why I raised pre you know, who calls a 3.5x opener with K10109rainbow in OHL? Still though, I have to recognize that people play hands they shouldn't and will hit with them. Anyway, of course I get some decent holdings later AKJ2 twice and brick out. Again, as a shortie I make PSB at 30/60 with limpers to 360, I have 720ish behind and button flats 33% of his stack, others fold, flop is K,10,lo and I stick the rest in. Button calls with J1099 and hits two pair. He called 33% of his stack pre with that in OHL. Just thank kind of day.

Having some fun on UB OHL Ring games. 1/2 Fixed limit and I buy in for 40$ and get up to 200$ at one table just talking people into calling me. I had two hotheads to my right who called all. I should have added them to buddy list to see when they are playing.

    Ok, gl all.

  • 0 for 6 Today

    By lukaluka05 - Nov 26 2008, 11:03 PM

I thought I played well enough. I bubbled the FTP PLO Rebuy in 19th when UTG raised and I was shorty in BB with AJ10x. I figured I was ahead and he was raising money bubble so I stuck the rest in and he called with QKJx. I held until river. I was short stack in tourn so seemed like a good spot.

UB PLO Rebuy - I accidently double rebuyed (I never do that, but the new Cereus thing threw me off). I always double add on though, I'm glad they kep that. Anyway, a hand I lost a lot of chips on was I limp in LP with naked KK97 and flop, 5handed, is 10,8,2 rainbow, checks to me on button and I bet 2/3 pot. One caller. Turn is a 10. I bet again, repping the ten and the guy minraises me. I know he has the 10 and it seems like a feeler raise, I think it is worth it to call the minraise because I feel I have 10outs. Well, turn is a J giving me the st8 and he 2/3 pot. I don't like but eventually call (worried about J10) and he turns up 810. I guess it worked out for him. I never play top two like this because by letting in check around any 6,7,9,J,Q,K,A is bad for your top two. The only thing you would like to see on turn is an 8 or 10 which is 4 cards in the deck. It worked out for him this time though.

UB 33 Rebuy - Doubled during rebuy, one addon. The power of the c-bet. When I raise in LP and get called by a blind I usually c-bet the pot. Example. I raise on button and SB calls to flop of J,4,7 and I bet 400 into 600. Do my cards matter at this point? Not really, if he calls or raises I can evaluate from there but if he missed flop he is most likely folding. So he folds, very next hand I have AQo and make same raise on cutoff. BB calls this time. Flop is Q,Q,5, very nice. I make same 400 into 600 c-bet even though I just crushed the flop. So now this guy, after seeing me make the same play twice now, decides to call (no doubt in my mind with intention of trying to steal pot...I don't think he has a hand). Turn is J. He checks and I make a weak feeler bet of 800 into 2k pot, trying to let him bluff since I know he wants to. Well, he min raises me. Now, pot is pretty big but again I think he has nothing. So if I shove he has to fold. Should I smooth call? I decide to min raise and play a game with him. He tanks and shoves and I call to see K10, drawing to 4 outs. I hold up and double up. Even though he picked up a st8 draw he floated flop OOP with K high with the intention of trying to steal. My standard c-bet on flop made it difficult to read the strength of my hand because am betting air and the nutz the same way. Anyway, later in tourn I raise EP with KK and get reraised hard by MP. I pretend to tank and shove and he calls with AK and turns the A. 17k pot and I'm gone. I played well though.

Not much to note from the OHR Rebuys - 0 for 4 in those. Just couldn't get the big hands to hold.

Won a little bit playing OHL Ring. Here is the sweetest flop you can get in Omaha. I raise AAKQ double suit and flop is A,J,10 rainbow. I flop nut trips/nut st8 and two back door nut flush draws. I make my min bet (limit) and everyone folds of course but a sweet flop indeed. Happy turkey day all!

  • Almost another 1st in UB PLO Rebuy

    By lukaluka05 - Nov 24 2008, 11:56 PM

3rd Place actually, I had the chip lead 3 handed and then this:

I raise button AA93ss and BB calls, flop is J108ss, he checks I make PSB. Now the pot is huge, he tanks and calls turn is a 8 and he shoves the rest in. I have to call the rest even though I feel I've been outdrawn, he tables AQJ8 for turned trips. I was 68% on flop and I would have had huge chip lead heads up. That hand crushed me, I shoved a couple times to get some chips then I hold KKJ6 double suit and make PSB on button, same guy calls in BB and flop is 478 rainbow, he checks and I make PSB, (two back door FD's) he shoves a little bit more and I call, he shows AQ45, I'm 55% to win this one but I lose the race. Then that same guy busted really quickly with his huge chiplead before I could close the table to take 2nd. Anyway, good run.

I played the FTP 6 Max terribly. Lesson for the day: Never bluff a calling station. I had just seen this guy call a raise with QQ and call down a ace flop to river trips Q's. Knowing that I raise 1010 UTG and he makes big reraise. This pretty much rules out AA/KK, So I can put him on AK or 8's-Q's I think. Flop is A,8,5dd I check to him and he checks. Now I know he doesn't have AK. Turn is 7 and I bet 2/3 pot, he calls and river is A. I bet 2/3 pot again repping the A and he insta calls with JJ. I could have checked river and he would have checked as well most likely, 1010 has showdown value there and I only lose to QQ,JJ. I tried to bluff him off those hands if he had them and obviously I shouldn't have from previous hand. This was my WORST play in a while: I limp UTG AK (almost always raise it, but active table and I'm looking to reraise. Flop is A,2,3 ok, not bad blinds check and I check to button who is active, looking for a check/raise (again terrible 4 handed, should just bet it), checks to a turn 2, now BB makes 2/3 pot bet. And you know what, I know this guy has a 2. But I flat it with the intention of shoving his river bet. So river is meaningless and he 2/3 pot. I raise almost my entire stack (again thinking AK is not good here, just hoping to bluff a guy off trips). He calls with Q2. I mean, embarrassing to post but I need to post it. I got to let of hands like that. How often can you bluff a guy off trips? I was just pissed at the turn and how I played it and I told myself "I'm still gonna win this pot". Just bad.

PS OHL Rebuy - Had a nice deep run but only worth while cashes are FT and I didn't get there. Played the two PS NOHL Rebuys and played well, got good stacks without even rebuying but one tourn I shove AIPF AA53 and was insta called by a guy with QQ24 and he flops a Q. Strange. I don't remember how I busted the other tourn.

I decided to play OHL Ring again to show myself I had the discipline to not donk it like yesterday. I think for the most part I kept myself in check and came out a winner. Off tomorrow, maybe some OHL Ring for an hour on FTP, when everybody gets off work, that seems to be when the action happens.

    Gl all.

  • 2 Final Tables and OHL Ring Tilt

    By lukaluka05 - Nov 23 2008, 10:30 PM

     The semi-good news first....

Cake 11$ Rebuy - Made FT (good) busted 9th (bad) open shoved AA with 12 bbs and got called by 99 and lost almost 200k pot.

FTP $OHL Rebuy - Made FT (good) busted 6th (bad). A couple key hands, I'm in BB with Q34xx and flop comes 245ss and limper makes PSB. Now I've seen this guy limp 9823 and all kinds of junk. PSB kind of tells me he doesn't have st8, I have him covered and decide to put pressure on him and raise. He shoves and tables A457ss which is bad as he is 67% to scoop and does. I put him on 45ish hand, I didn't think he had A though.

Anyway, I chip up at FT from 40k to 95k and then EP makes PSB and I hold AAQ3cc and make PSB, he shoves and hits quads with AJ24 and instead of nearly 200k I'm short again. My bust hand was questionable to play, I had QJ108double suit which would be auto shove in Omaha but this is H/L. Anyway, I am shorty at table and guy who has been min raising does it again and I call to see flop in position. Blinds fold so a nice price for me, flop is Q,5,4 and he bets small and I shove what I got let. He table AK35 and turns gin with 2d, I have FD but miss and that's it. I could have waited around, easy in hindsight to say that, and I could have I just hate blinding out. Rather go out fighting.

PS OHL Rebuy - Lots of chips and then I'm in BB with 9946 and flop is A,8,9 rainbow, and I decide to check shove this to a bet. It's aggresive but you figure what is calling? If QJ109 type hand or 10987 type hands call I'll have the lo. If a 2345 calls I'll have the hi. Anyway I check shove and guy calls with J1052, no redraws to flushes. Anyway hits a 7 and no 5,2 or board pair for me and I'm scooped. Then later I have KQ9xcc in BB and flop is J10xcc giving me wrap st8 draw and 2nd NFD I make PSB and get two callers, one had naked NFD and hit it. Game over.

I started mixing in some 1/2 OHL Fix limit while I play tourns and I really went ballistic. The pasty 3 days I've done it on FTP and made 450$ avg 5.5bb/100 at both 6max and full ring. Well I had some outdraws early to start and just went crazy and eroded my profit down to 95$ and .77bb/100 or something. Sick, just throwing away money like that. I wasn't in a good state of mind and my girfriend was calling me out on it. I still do this from time to time and it's costing me in the long run lots of money (for me at least). Throwing away 250$ at OHL Ring is not cool.

Oh, an interesting hand from the UB PLO Rebuy (bust hand)

In the BB (notice all these killer hands I'm in the blinds usually, cards I wouldn't call with but would be silly to autofold in the BB to no raise). I hold 34xxss (I forgot others and flop is Q,3,2ss. Not a good flop but UTG min bets and one caller so I call as well and turn is 5 giving me up/down st8, flush draw and a pair, min bet again one guy calls and I call, river is a 6, this gives me a sucker st8.  So 78 and 47 beat me. Same UTG guy min bets and button makes PSB. So If I'm the button and I hold 78/47 why would I make PSB? I want to get value out of my hand and one guy has check called two min bets and the other guy made two min bets, so noone is showing any strength. He is in positon on the button making a good bluff spot to this weak betting in front of him. So do I put this guy on 47/78? Would he call with that on flop? Certainly a 4567 would call that flop. Anyway, I shove from SB because I think it's a bluff (maybe chop) and suprisingly the min raise guy calls, then button shoves again and min raise guy calls with trip Q's. Crazy. Anyway, button had A78ss and rivered nutz. I still like my play, often I find a bluff in that spot. I do regret not making a note on the guy so I know for future he will do that. I don't think that is profitable in the long term. hard to get value out of PSB there, who is gonna call? (donks with trip Q's and sucker st8s this time) HA!! Ok, no more poker today. GL all.
