  • Played well...did not run well

    By lukaluka05 - Jan 11 2009, 07:11 PM

I can't watch the last 3 minutes of the Giants came...too painful so I'll blog. I played the late schedule yesterday but things didn't work out. Two deep runs in HORSE tourns. A min cash in Stars 11$ HORSE and bubble bust in FTP 75$ HORSE. I ran like death in the OHL on FTP's tourn and had boat run into quads and AQ2x get scooped and A277 get scooped by AJ5x. I had a deep run in this FTP 6Max 5$ Rebuy. I almost gave up before rebuy ended when I lost AK vs AQ, QQ vs A7 and JJ vs A9 AIPF. But I rebought each time and hands went my way after break. I thought the play was pretty poor in general in that tourn and I'll probably play it again tonite. I wish I could play this schedule but I would never see my girlfriend if I did. If we move back to west coast this summer I'll switch for sure. Anyway, with 40 left (of 947) I'm leader with 300K and next closet is 200K. I won a huge race AK vs QQ for 200K in chips. Then a couple of small mistakes. Here we go:

I complete in SB with 87o and BB (new to table) checks. Flop is A,9,2 ...check check...turn is A putting three diamonds out, check..check. River is 3d putting three diamonds out and I min bet with air (hoping to fold 9,10,J,Q hi hands). He raises 4x. Now I have no reads on him, but I don't believe he has an A because a preflop raise, flop bet, or turn bet never happened. I don't think he has flush, sometimes players bet with flush draw with position, but he may have checked it. Anyway, I tank a few seconds and shove since I have him way covered and think he has to have a big hand here to call me and I've ruled out A's or flushes in my mind. Anyway he tanks for a bit and calls with 54 for the rivered gutshot. Then he types "ty" which is lol. Anyway, I'm suprised he called it off for his tourn life there but I didn't consider a st8 in his raise range. Anyway, a minor mistake and I'm still in lead with 230K. A larger mistake comes here: UTG makes min raise (habitual min raiser) and I have 33. I think flatting is fine here because I have to fold to any 4 bet really so I might as well call in position for 2bbs as we are both deep stacked. Only problem is this gives BB good pot odds to call with ATC as he is 5.5 to 1 about. So BB calls and flop is 8,8,2 hh which is pretty good flop for this. Checks to UTG he makes 2 BB bet (10k into 40k) and I raise to 40k, BB shoves and UTG folds. I fold, I could have maybe raised to 25k instead of 40, so actually I'll say it was a minor mistake as well, wasn't played that bad. But now I'm down to 180k. Very next hand UTG raises minimum to 10k and I look at AKo and insta shove. I want it to look like a steam shove/tilt because I just lost a decent pot (remember it's 6 max as well). I have the guy covered and he thinks for a bit and calls with 1010. I lost that race and am down to 95K. I chip up to 135K and then at same blind level it folds to button who shoves his last 11 BB's. I look at 33 in SB. If I lose I'll be down to 75K and if I win I'll be up to about 200k and I think buttons range/11 BB short stack in tourn is wide enough that calling here is good (even though it's gonna be a race). Anyway I call and he tables Arag and hits the A. Doh. Anyway I bust 14th of 947 for a pretty small cash. I was 1 for 3 on my flips and they were all huge. Anyway. Playing that tourn again tonight if it's on because it was fun. I hope the Cardinals beat the Eagles next week! Gl at the tables....

  • Time to tighten up after two days of donking

    By lukaluka05 - Jan 10 2009, 04:01 PM

Well, this happens to me frequently. I play well and make some good cash for 3 days straight and then start feeling invincible and get too aggresive make hero calls and just call call call my chips off. I went 0 for 22 the other day, and went a little crazy yesterday too although it was just a slight loss for the day. For some reason I played a Limit Holdem tournament yesterday for the first time in ages on FTP and made FT of it!! I busted in 6th though as I lost 99 to JJ, 77 to A6, and QQ to A6 at the FT. Oh well. I hope I'm back in line today and change my strategy from calling to much to folding more often and letting people steal pots in position. My GF is out of town so I'll be playing the night tourns again and maybe even that Limit tourn too!! Gl all....

  • Pre flop iso vs short stack raises in a pot limit game.

    By lukaluka05 - Jan 07 2009, 05:11 PM

So I'm playing the FTP 44$ OHL yesterday and limp in MP with AK67cc and face a min raise by the next player who only has 20bbs after his raise. His min raise is called by the button (fishy player) and it's folded back to me. I want to iso and stack off the short stack so I make PSB which builds the pot to over 1K, the shorty stacks off with 1.2K and now the fishy button has a decision to make. He will be putting 1/3 of his stack in to call to see a flop and won't even have a PSB left behind him. I thought this would be enough to get him to fold, of course though he is fishy and calls. Flop is A1010 rainbow and I bet half pot, obviously only a 10 has me unless he flat called a min raise with AA. Anyway, he puts the rest in and I call to see AQ107 and I lose. I type in the chat what made you call off a 1/3 of your stack preflop which such a weak hand in OHL facing a raise and reraise. He replied "because you couldn't reraise me" after the shortstack shoved. Well even though his play was fishy and incorrect his statement was true at least.

Fast forward an hour or so later and I'm in a PLO cash game with AA82 rainbow and I limp (it's naked and I'm UTG so I don't like raising here and playing OOP because the hand won't play well unless I hit the A). Then a short stack makes PSB and it's called by two players (6 max BTW). So back to me and now I would like to iso this shorty, if I make PSB then shorty can't reraise enough and his raise will cap the action pre flop letting the other two players see the flop for the size of his stack. With the fish's chat from the FTP 44 OHL fresh in mind I decide to min raise the short stack. Now he makes another PSB and it is flatted again by the two other players. However since I min raised instead of PSB it let him make another legitimate raise so the action is still live to me and not capped. Now it is perfect as I can make PSB which puts my enitre stack in. I do just that and suprising the other two guys call!! So my iso stragey worked but never underestimate a fishes ability to just call call call. Anyway, my hand held and I ended up 5 plus buyins at that table. Figured a little strategy was called for in the blog instead of just posting bad beats and whatnot. No poker today, Gl to all who are playing.

  • I'm back.......to the grind

    By lukaluka05 - Jan 03 2009, 11:19 PM

Back to Atlanta and work today, had a good holiday of pretty much no poker. Good month despite not playing the last 9 days of it. Today, I played ok. I think I was a little overwhelmed MTTing. I had to get back in the grove. I made some good plays, a couple bad ones, sucked out plenty. Doubled my investment today so I'll take it. To tired to go over any hands.
