February 2009 - Posts

  • 10th in FTOPS #18

    By lukaluka05 - Feb 14 2009, 05:21 PM

Well, I made a deep run in FTOPS PLO HU event. Funny thing is I never play HU SNGs or cash games. I started to play some satties to this tourn and felt the play in the satties was weak and I thought there would be a lot of NL players in the tourn so I talked myself into playing it. 803 entrants. 1st round was easy, I got a bye along with almost 200 other players. Next round I OPR the guy, he is a winning holdem player and losing PLO player. I win easily. Same for my next opponent, now I have min cashed. The next opponent is OPR'ed as a fish and loser at all games. I beat him. The next opponent is a very good holdem player with no stats on PLO. These are the guys I was counting on playing in this tourn. I beat him as well. Next round I have a guy who has losing stats in all games but way to small a sample to matter so he is probably a cash player. I knew right away he was not a good PLO play when I raised OTB with AKJx and he calls OOP with J227 no suit. board made xx7Jx for him to win. Anyway, I hadn't gotten my money in bad at all in the entire tournament till this:

I hold K8102 and unraised pot sees a 8,8,9 flop. We get it all in and he holds A8xx. Kind of a cooler there. But I get lucky and fill up. I'm feeling now that this tourn is my destiny to scoop. We are the last match going in the round. That was it for my luck though. I raise AA45ss and he calls OOP again and I flop gin with A97dd and I PSB he calls with naked 68xx. Turn is 10d which is gross and it gets checked down, no boat. Another hand I have A10104cc and flop nut set again to lose to a sucker st8, no boat again. Then I hold A344ss in unraised pot and flop is 2,5,6 rainbow. He checks and I bet half pot and he makes PSB. I reraise PSB and he tanks and shoves with 226x for bottom trips and one blocker to his boat. Turn 7.....yes baby come on now...river is 5 NO!!.  Oh well, I'll take the 2k profit considering I wasn't even going to play, but to be a river away from having a big chip lead I was pretty confident in sealing the deal on him. Then it was 2 HU matches to 28k,14k, or 8k. for 1st,2nd and 3rd/4th. Next time.

I played the FTOPS OHL Limit but busted out in that. Two key hands

I hold AJ53ss and 4 limpers to button who raises. Calls all around and flop is J,5,2dd for top two pair and nut lo. I also hold the naked NFD. Checks to me and I check as well expecting a c-bet from button, hoping to get some callers and then I'll raise it when it's back on me. Even though there are diamonds out there  I hold A of d and my raise could be repping nut hi and nut lo draws. I should be able to fold out weak diamond draws especially if the turn bricks. So it's called around and folded by maybe two guys and turn is 9x, perfect. I bet and get two callers. Now the pot is nice and juicy and we are going 3 handed to river. It's a 6x, so no flushes. Now first guy to act bets and I have decision. Raise or call. I've made nut lo and what can I put this guy on? Nut lo as well? 78 for nut st8 is unlikely unless he holds A378. So I decide to raise and button calls and EP guy calls. EP turns up a sucker str8 with 34 and button turns up A3xx for naked lo. OMFG puke it up. Instead of scooping whole or half pot I get quartered by two bad draws. This cost me 6K plus in chips. Then, later with the blinds bigger I lose a pot BvsB where I hold 2336hh on flop of 4,7,10hh. We get in in on flop and SB hold AA109. I am 55% to scoop and he is 19% to scoop. Well, he scooped and I'm out. Anyways. I played well in that tourn just didn't work out. I am enjoying playing now more by removing the chat feature from FTP and Cereus. Now I don't see peoples complaints and I don't rant or I don't complain myself. Makes for better focus on poker. OK GL all.

  • FTOPS HA Event (Deep run but not deep enough)

    By lukaluka05 - Feb 10 2009, 12:29 AM

Well, I busted 48th of 1000 plus runners. I played well enough and made just a huge mistake toward the end. I raise with AKK3 in EP and get flatted by a guy who loves to flat and BB comes as well. Flop is K,J,6ss. Now I have the naked A of S. Normally I C-bet this half pot (pot was 41kish). That would be 21K and I would have 33k or so behind. Basically committing myself to it. I say "normally" because for some reason I guess magnitude of the event and my excitement level I decide to check when BB checks to me. This is way to timid a play I think. Button checks. Now turn is 8, board is KJ68ss. BB checks and here I check again! Why? Am I happy to get to a cheap showdown? Yes. But then it gets worse. Button decides to bet 25k at 41k pot. I tank for a little, I can't put him on trips/top two or he would have bet flop for sure, I feel that if he turned trips a PSB is in order on that board. So is he bluffing? He is either bluffing or has something like J98x KQ98 or J109 semi bluff. Well I decide to call here and the pot is now 93k and the river is 7. Board is KJ687, no flushes. I check and he bets 25k again. I feel that he doesn't have J98x as that has showdown value there and only a better hand is calling. He is either bluffing or hit his st8. In retrospect, given I could go either way on him I think its a call for my tournament life. 115K pot and I have to call essentialy my last 25k (I have 32K actually). If he made a st8 or value u towned me with K8xx so be it. Only good play was the preflop raise. Terrible flop/turn/river. Well, I had 32k after that at 2500/5000 level. That is why the turn call was killer. I would have had 57k which is definitely playable for me. I am very good short stacking PLO but 6bbs has no FE and I'll have to get lucky. So I wait until the big blind is on a guy who is tight and has the same amount of chips as me. I hold A468hh. I like shoving with this in this spot because. I need to gamble, and people will be calling me wide and sometimes the A high wins strangely enough. I also feel I will be called by bigger pairs and my cards aren't part behind KK-JJ type stuf. Well, the SB flats it and BB folds flop is Q,9,4 and SB puts me in I call my last two BBs. I don't know why he didn't raise it pre to put me in the BB was short as well and did he really want to go 3 handed? Anyway he tables J,10,7,8 for the st8 draw. He is 58% to win and does. That hand is really irrelevant but the AAK3 hand was the key one as that is what left me short. Oh well....in some sick news....

I played only two other tourns so that I could focus on FTOPS HA. The UB PLO Rebuy and FTP OHL Rebuy.

UB . I hold AA84ss in SB and it limps around and I just complete. Then the BB min raises OMG WTF IS THAT? So everydonk limper calls the min raise. Now it gets back to me and the pot is big enough where I can make a PSB and get 1/4 of my stack in pre and have some good fold equity. So I do that and get donk called by 3 players!! LOL. Anyway flop is AJ5cc so I flop da nutz. I make PSB and all 4 of us are all in!! The donk in BB has KQ55 for bottom set. Some other donk has AQ37 (OMG!) and the last donk has J1068 (OMGWTF?) No one has a flush draw. I'm feeling pretty good!! Fade the case 5 or the 3 remaing tens (4 outs to quadruple up!). River is a 10 and the donk is now the chipleader by a wide margin and I'm out. Sickness....but in my other tourn

FTP OHL - 19 left of 150ish and its hand for hand. I am in BB shorthanded and UTG limps. Flop is K,7,2cc and i hold 7734. Nice. I'm looking to check shove my trips but the UTG guy checks. Turn is 2 giving me the boat. I check and now he makes PSB. Oh yeah....he has A2 most likely. I raise PSB and he shoves. Well, he must have K2 then unlucky for him. I shove the rest and he tables Ak2x. He needs the case 2 or two of the remaining Ks. Well the K comes and I'm busto. Sick.

Anyway....I think I'll play the OHL fix limit, I don't know. We'll see, I was winning a lot of satties in that until last week I just kept getting outdrawn by fishes. But there will be so many fishes in the sea of FTOPS that it should be worth playing. Ok. Thats it.

  • FTOPS #2

    By lukaluka05 - Feb 06 2009, 01:25 AM

Well, I was so looking forward to this tournament. Probably bad to get too excited because then disappoinment is bound to happen if I don't make a good run. I finished 19th in this last FTOPS or the previous one but busted 1111st place LOL. This is a OHL/KO tournament......

One limper in MP @ 50/100 and SB makes it 300 to go. I call 200 more in BB with 24xx and a stack of 3900. Flop is 3,5,6cc and SB makes 700 bet into 900 pot. Ok, I have 2nd nut hi and 3rd nut lo. I'm assuming this guy has A2xx. A24x or A2xxcc would be nasty but I'm willing to risk him freerolling if he does have clubs. And I can still make nut lo if A comes. Anyway, there is still one guy in the pot but what are odds he has 47 exactly? So I raise PSB and the MP guy raises PSB all in. SB tanks for a while (now I know he has naked A2 and is thinking that at least one of us has A2 and he will get quartered)....but....he can't lay down naked A2 of course and calls the two all ins. So he shows A2xx and other guy has 2347 NO! He has the 47, I'm done. WAH!. It's okay. I got over it. What sucks is the other OHL event in FTOPS is fixed but I'll play it anyway.

I also would love to play the 535 PLO 6 Max, but I'm not rolled for that. I mean I wish you couldn't unregister for the tournament when u win a sattie because then I just take the cash. I will play the 216 HA and the 129 KO NL. There is also a PLO HU event which is new but HU is not my strong suit. I'm best 5-6 handed, full ring and HU are definietly weaker for me. Oh, I bricked everything else out today too. Just wasn't my day. Ok... latez

  • The Problem with OPR....

    By lukaluka05 - Feb 04 2009, 12:31 AM

Online Poker Rankings is a good site to check out sometimes when you want a general idea of an opponent. Sometimes I'm heads up and a person will talk about a chop. I'll usually look them up and if they are a good player I'll consider it. If they've luckboxed their way then I'll take my chances. Anyway, one huge flow with OPR is calcuating ROI's if you play rebuys.....

    Example.

I've played the stars $55 PLO Rebuy 10 times. I've bought in from 1150$ and won 1200$. This is a minimal positive ROI (4%?). Now the problem with OPR in calculating the ROI is they take the number of buyin/addons and divide by entrants and come up with an average buy in. The average buy in for this tourn is about 230$. So 230$ x my entries is 2300 - my winnings (1200) and I come out to -900 for a -30/40% ROI. Quite far off from the true ROI of 4% (BTW, its only a 10 tourney size sample, so it's not long term ROI but just the actual ROI for 10 tourns. Hopefully it will be up to my normal PLO Rebuy average of 50% ROI once I get a large enough sample size.) OPR let's u check winnings without estimated rebuy/addons but them again that would not be accurate either, because we all rebuy or add on. Same can even be said for bounty tournaments where you are getting 10-25% of your buy in back. Anyway, that is why I keep my own MS Excel spread sheet. Everthing is accurate and for each tournament I play I have my total profit/number of entries/average profit per entry. This is to let me determine which tournaments I should be playing and which I need to let go of. I really need to get a good sample in though (200 MTTS?) before I can make a decent decision. If anyone is interested in seeing the spreadsheet and editing it for themselves let me know.
