So on Monday night I took the FTP 33re PLO which had 10.5k prize pool. Last night I was a river away from taking 1st in the PS 55re NL which would have been sick because I said I wanted to get the Triple Crown in three different disciplines and that would have been two of them. Oh well. Two big hands I played I'll discuss:
FTP 75$ PLO:
I raise KQQ10hhdd and SB calls. Flop is J108hh giving me overpair/gutshot/and flush draw. SB makes PSB. I would expect a check/raise from most players however I don't know this guy and pot is small I call to see turn action. He makes PSB again on J1087hh board, now the bet is 1500 to me, getting big here(15/30 blind level). Now what range do I assign this guy. I have no reads on him. Is he PSBing trips/str8/two pair or a combo draw/pair?. Since I have a large stack (10k after stacking two people) I decide to call. River makes it J10877 with no flush getting there and another PSB. Wat? You figure a str8 would slow down with paired board. Top two would slow down as it would be counterfit a lot. Was he PSBing AKQhh all the way and missed? I feel like maybe he has trips and filled up or he has air/busted draw and is hoping I missed my draw as well. So I call the 3k PSB to see Q986 for the nut str8. I'm surprised by PSB on river. I think I would check call there because if I was on a draw and missed his check would give me a chance to bluff at it. If I was calling with trips there would be some pot control issues there. What if I raise? Is he calling his whole stack off with a paired board in PLO holding a str8. I think the lesson here is to not assume your opponents play like you. I think he would have called shove and he wasn't concerned with my holdings only his. Flop call was fine, turn questionable, river was just wrong. I hope writing it helps me realize it next time.
Okay, maybe I'll post the holdem hand later. Gl all....
