  • Poker Stars is rigged and I'm a staked player in SNGs (soon)

    By MakeMeMaster - Jan 30 2010, 05:21 PM

It has been a long time since I updated my blog. As many of you know I was successful at turning 300$ to 10k (17,5k to be exact [I can't stop bragging about this!!!]) After I won the 22$ 1r1a and took 9th in 55$ rebuy (lost CL pot 33<AK, rivered), my MTT success on Stars has been nonexistent. I believe I have a -74% roi, around 240 games played and 31$ ABI (stuck like 5k). SNGs on Poker Stars have gone well, up almost 1,7k (small sample size though).

On Full Tilt I've made 1k during the year on MTTs but I'm still disappointed on my performance there. I've had a few really good opportunities to get big scores but fallen short (usually at the final table). I know it's just variance, but it still hurts.

My future plans include being a staked player in SNGs. I will be coached/staked by a mid-stakes pro "msusyr24". I'm required to play 20,000 (yes, twenty thousand) 45 and 180 mans for him (50-50 with make-up and we split profits 1st of every month). For some it might feel like it's going to take forever, but I'm confident that with his help I'll be done before the start of 2011 (maybe even sooner). This is a long term commitment but I feel ready for it.

A little "msusyr24" background and how I found this opportunity. He is Alexander Carr, a 22-year-old poker pro. He is also a trusted member of parttimepoker.com (a staking site) and before Christmas I decide to buy a share of his MTT action for 400$. Luckily for me (and for him too i guess) he took 2nd in 55$ rebuy for 24k. I pocket a cool 2k and change. That's how i stumbled upon his site, [spam deleted] (the link was in his profile on PTP, lol)

After thinking and rethinking several opportunities concerning playing poker and how to get better, I decided that trying to land this staking/coaching agreement was by best choice. I made an application through [spam deleted] and I was approved to his stable of horses a few weeks later (It hasn't started yet, would be kinda embarrassing if he turns me down after I've written all this and promoted his blog and site, lol)

Many of you probably think that this is going to destroy my progress in getting better in MTTs and my volume in them. Well you are half-right. My volume in MTTs is going to be very low during the next few months. But as a privileged member of [spam deleted] (yay, this is fun) I will have access to "bonus MTT videos" that will surely boost my game.

Studying SNG game will be big part of what I'll be doing during the next months to come. I'm not going to quite improving on my MTT game or cash game play though. I will join PokerXfactor in the near future as well as some instructional cash game website. I try to have at least 1 day every week only to play MTTs in the middle of the "SNG GRIND".

Before I get started with the "SNG GRIND" (I'm going to call it that, get used to it) I have a quest for glory. Win Mr. Blonde's Micro MTT team comp (also individual side bet). I cannot fail. I'll win and it's not even close. Right? It's starting in a few hours and I'm stoked.

I will update my progress throughout the year in this SNG coaching/staking thing ("SNG GRIND" i mean) and other things concerning poker. (Guess where? Yes, in my blog on pocketfives, hope someone reads it, I put a lot of minutes in this).

So for now, bye and let's all run good in February (except the guys I'm competing against in the MICRO MTT TEAM COMP!!!)

    By MakeMeMaster - Dec 28 2009, 05:54 PM

93 days ago I set a goal to myself. To turn 300$ into 10k. I had no timeframe, but I was very motivated to do it quickly. During these 3 months, I've played more poker than I've played during my whole life. Needless to say I've gotten way better.

The challenge was a rollercoaster. For example I was up to 7k 10 days ago, and before I won the 22$ 1r1a yesterday, I only had 3k. I havent always stick to BR management , but I never were close to going broke.

So last night I won the 22$ 1r1a for 15k and change. By far my biggest score ever. I had a good stack through out the tourney, except during the last 2 tables. I was among the chipleaders with 18 players, but then I lost a huge pot (110bb) TT < QQ. I was left with 10bb with 15 left. Played pretty loose and was able to take the chiplead again with 13 players left. After that I was in the top three all the time.

Heads-up me and my opponent had pretty even chipstacks. He offered a deal, but I really wanted that 15k so we kept playing. Heads-up only lasted 5 hands (lol) and this hand pretty much finished it.

  • 2009 recap and goals for 2010

    By MakeMeMaster - Dec 24 2009, 05:33 AM

    2009 in a nutshell

I've played a lot of poker this year, especially during the last three months. I've had many ups and downs but at least the year ends on a positive note. I had a few big scores in December (33$ 500 cap and 36$ 180 man wins), but lost about an half of that profit playing big MTTs. I also cashed out 1500$, as a reward of this grinding.

With that said, I have a 3k roll to start year 2009. My challenge to turn 300$ to 10k is still ongoing, although i've made cashouts, etc.

EDIT: oh and  I shipped the 22$ 1r1a for 15k on Sunday 27th. good times

Poker goals and plans for 2010

    1. To have 10k before the end of February To accomplish this I am going to reduce the number of MTTs that I play daily . During the week I'll only play the 33$ 500 cap, 5.50$ 8k, 3.30$ 6-max and 8.80$ 500 cap. I will put crazy volume in regular speed 180 mans. (I could play 12$ 180 mans, but the swings can be soo brutal so I dont want to). In the weekend I'll play mainly micro MTTs, and reduce the amount of mid stake MTTs, because having 10% of your BR in one day MTT run is a little too risky for me . OOPS I DID IT IN 2009 ALREADY

    2. Work on self-control When Multitabling I sometimes let tough elimination in on MTT affect how I play in others... and BR management still

    3. Study the game and try to improve (MTT game) The last three months I have done nothing to improve my game. I've just played poker. I know my game has many leaks and I need to do something to fix them. I think I'm going to join some training site or something.

    4. Learn to play cash games MTT and SNG sessions take too long sometimes imo. Cash games would be ideal for me since you can come and go when you want. Propably need to join a training site for this too.

    5. Profit 50k I will set a little high goal for profit. It will only motivate me more.

    6. Play some SCOOP and MINIFTOPS events Never played before so should be cool

    6. Final table a sunday major one time?

    7. Play the WCOOP ME Would be cool to satellite in and play.
