  • Taking care of your health

    By mesaplayeraz - Jan 14 2009, 12:54 AM

Half of the reason why I am leaving the game for a while is due to health issues.  I sit around a lot, plus the stress of bad beats and not leading a very active lifestyle (jagerbombers over the weekends don't help either..lool) has lead me to having high BP.

Not going to go into great details about it other than it was 166/106 which is considered extremely high.

I am hoping if anyone reads this blog and they are grinders of any form of poker, please take some time out of your daily grinding schedule to eat properly and at least take a walk or do some form of exercise.

It was a wake up call that I need to make some serious life changes.

Good luck to all at the tables and in life!

  • Leaving the game.

The title pretty much says it all.  I will play the play money tournaments and use up my FTP points for satty's but other than that, I am done.

Poker hasnt become enjoyable trying to win money when your good hands are holding up around 30% of the time and you only manage to suck out 7% of the time.

Good luck everyone at the tables.

  • Starting my 2009 SnG grinding today.

    By mesaplayeraz - Dec 30 2008, 08:14 AM

I've decided to start my 2009 SnG grinding 2 days early. The reason why is because the new week for rakeback starts on a Tuesday and it would be a lot easier to keep track of my rakeback on my excel sheet if I start up a new week every Tuesday.

    Goals per week:
    1) Play between 420-700 SnG's per week
    2) Maintain a 10% ROI
    3) Review hand histories
    4) Maintain proper BR management
    5) Keep my cool for when bad beats happen
    6) Stay away from cash games!
    7) Most important, HAVE FUN! :)

I will be playing 6 sng's per session but I won't hesitate to move up to 9 if I feel like I can do this and be profitable.

Each Tuesday morning, I will be creating a new blog posting my results as my stats will look like this:

    1) games played
    2) Profit/loss
    3) rakeback

If I play a minimum of 420 SnG's per week (which is 60 per day), rakeback alone at 27% would be $28.35 and if I were to play 700 per week, rakeback would be $47.25.

So, if I can maintain a 10% ROI at 420 games, that would be around $52.50 and with the assistance or rakeback, my BR within a month should be up around $200-$300 dollars.

At the start of Febuary, hopefully by maintaining a 10% ROI, I can move up to the 2.25 level.

In closing, my starting BR will be at $52.62 which I think is enough to get me going at the 1.25 level.  I will not move up in buy-in's until I have 100 buy-ins as I am most comfortable playing with 100 buy-in's.

So, my goal is to get my BR up to $200 dollars so I can move up to the 2.25 level.

From time to time, I will be posting a HH where I am stumped and if you want to comment on the HH, please do!  Im still learning and want to continue to learn!

    Thanks and wish me luck!!!!!!

  • Im going for it! My goals for 2009

    By mesaplayeraz - Dec 29 2008, 12:32 AM

After thinking about poker the last few days while taking a semi-break until the new year, I have decided I am going to be putting in a lot of volume in SnG play with the goal of making a minimum of $6k ($6k is a lot for a person like me with a disability)!

Here is how I plan to do it.  I will be using Jennifear's strict BR guidelines about moving up and cashing out.

My starting roll will be between $30-$40 dollars, so I'm going to have to grind the 1.25 9 man turbo's on FTP for a while. Ugggggggg!

So I have a plan, going to play a minimum of 60 sng's a day.  I get 27% rakeback along with Iron Man mid year and end of the year bonus money, along with collecting bonus medals to exchange for bonus money, and last but not least profits from playing.

I figure if I can maintain a 10% ROI playing 60 a day for the entire year along with strict BR management, I should be able to hit my goal of $6k by the end of the year.

I am going to be using ICM to study my hands after I get done playing and will be asking Jennifear from time to time some questions but other than that, since I am severely hard of hearing, I will not be using any training video's nor any software that tracks my opponents play!

I want to prove to myself that I can do just as good as hearing people can while not being able to have access to site's such as PXF and Cardrunners!

I will be updating my blog once a week to post profits/losses.

If I manage to keep my sanity and reach my goal by the end of the year, Id love to go to Vegas for NYE to meet a lot of P5'ers and enjoy the hard work I put into playing.

    Wish me luck!!!!!
