It’s Time for the 2007 World Series of Poker on PocketFivesLive.com

By Dan

I remember one year ago sitting in PocketFives Chief Editor Adam Small’s condo with Riley Bryant and Cal Spears devising how PocketFivesLive.com was going to work. From live updates to exclusive photos of online poker stars, PocketFivesLive.com would have it all. One year and over a dozen tournaments later, the site is about to launch a rigorous coverage schedule for the Super Bowl of poker tournaments: the 2007 World Series of Poker. Just about all of the seven week long WSOP will be covered by PocketFivesLive.com, which will have a brand new look in the coming weeks. Jon Wein, known simply as Wein on the site, will join Michael “DDSpade” Balan and regular PocketFivesLive.com Tournament Reporter Court Harrington at the Rio for the best coverage of online poker players that you’ll find anywhere.

Starting on Saturday, June 2nd, the staff of PocketFivesLive.com will be in Las Vegas at the Rio’s Amazon Room covering the poker spectacle. The first event to be covered is a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament that kicks off at noon. There are a whopping 55 events in the 2007 WSOP and PocketFivesLive.com will be focusing on those that members of the site will be playing in. Small comments on the intensity of coverage expected for PocketFivesLive.com starting this weekend: “We're extremely lucky to have found reporters who have both passion for the job and the diligence and strong-mindedness to carry it out throughout the series. The coverage is going to provide P5s viewers a unique look at how online players are doing in the World Series.”

Regular blogs will track the progress of registered members of PocketFives. In order for PocketFivesLive.com to cover you, you’ll need to sign up for coverage. Small talks about what to expect: “PocketFivesLive.com is the only major tournament coverage site that lets you sign up for coverage and then be included in the reports everyone sees. You can sign up now to be covered in any of the events in the WSOP and our reporters will be there to let your fellow P5ers, friends, and family know how you're doing.” There is no charge for coverage; all you have to do is be a member of PocketFives. Simply visit the WSOP Roster Page and tell us what events you'll be playing in. You can also check out who's playing in which events by clicking here.

Once again, PocketFivesLive.com will also allow players to send text message updates to the site, courtesy of PokerXFactor.com.  To sign up for text messaging, please visit their registration page.

As has been the tradition over the past two years, a running count of the amount of money captured by PocketFivers at the WSOP will be displayed. In 2006, PocketFivers took home a massive $7.8 million in nearly 40 events, signaling how well many online poker players are succeeding in live events. In the 2006 Main Event, 50 PocketFivers cashed. There were three bracelet winners last year: Jon “pokertrip” Freidberg, who took down a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event (#17) for $526,185. Ian Johns, a.k.a. Ian J, won Event 23, a $3,000 Limit Hold’em event, for $291,755. Finally, Scott “JRAvila” Clements won the $3,000 Omaha High-Low 8/b event for $301,175 (Event #24). Over 30 PocketFivers made top 10 finishes. It was truly a groundbreaking year in 2006 for PocketFivers on poker’s biggest stage. Check out all the 2006 results by clicking here.

The WSOP will once again be held at the Rio this year, as was the case last year. The move to the Harrah’s-owned hotel ended 35 straight WSOPs at Binions Horseshoe Casino in Downtown Las Vegas. The venue will be bigger and better this year, with more poker tables and more events to participate in. If you’re unable to make the journey, follow all the coverage on PocketFivesLive.com!
