Winning a $129 bounty tournament on
UltimateBet in one night is normally a great feat for any poker player. $8,000 in your pocket and the satisfaction of knowing you’ve knocked out solid online poker players en route to victory. On Tuesday, February 13, Jim “
KrazyKanuck” Worth did just that. Oh, and he also took down a $38 bounty tournament and took fourth in a $22 tournament the same night. With $10,000 in his pockets, Worth sat down with PocketFives.com to discuss his night of domination on
UltimateBet.
Worth explains the $129 bounty tournament, which resulted in $8,050 in winnings: “I took the lead, or the top three, about midway through the tournament and carried it through to the final table. I killed the final table.” Only being guilty of one large suckout along the way, Worth was able to maneuver his way through a tough field: “The field was a good field and the play was good. I was in the groove myself, making moves to induce action. The biggest difference in those tourneys for me that night is that my moves were inducing action and my hands were holding up.”
By the time the final table of the $129 bounty tournament came around, Worth was in the zone: “I had two players early bite into traps I set for them. Against one player, after I flopped a flush, I double checked the flop and turn. He bet small on the turn, I min-raised him, and he pushed with top pair no back up draw; he was drawing dead. He had seen me min-raise before at that table on a draw or as a play, and saw me turn over the bluff and he went all in. That vaulted my stack up, and from there, the final four players were playing tight. When we got to four handed, I just kept pressure on and played back when I got played into. When I had a hand, it held up.”
At the final table of this tournament, as is customary, Worth had a large group of fans railing, whom he embraces as part of his celebrity status: “99% of them are really nice and polite. I don't get the morons like other pros do and I think that's because they can relate to me. I think the reason I have a good following is that I have, for the most part, always been chatty and friendly at the table. The online community has become my home. I have hundreds, if not thousands, of new friends. Seven years ago, if you asked me about the world I live in now, I'd laugh at the thought.”
Worth entered the $38 tournament “because I don’t have to concentrate. We have kids, and 7:00pm is really too early for me to sit and concentrate, so when I play it, I can basically blow it off if I have to. Also, when I play that one, my goal is to triple up very fast or bust out.” He won $1,918 for his efforts, providing some nice money to take down larger tournaments. This and other bounty tournaments that UltimateBet has introduced have changed the landscape of tournament play on the site: “I do enjoy though, when people take a run at me, just because they want to bust me [and take my bounty.] It works a lot because they suck out, but when it goes in my favor, I can usually carry a stack through.” Worth comments on the value of bounty tournaments for players who sign up: “The bounty tourneys are probably about the best value out there. You don't need to cash to get all or part of your money back.”
As a member of Team UB, KrazyKanuck carries around a certain aura wherever he plays. “The site had a great idea years back to bring on a successful online pro rather than just live pros and, in reality, people can relate to me and fathom getting my results a lot more than they can imagine getting Hellmuth’s results, for example. They brought me on because I was killing tourneys years ago.” When asked about his obligations to UB, Worth commented, “I have no restrictions as to what I can and cannot play, because I use all my own money. I endorse UB, but at the same time, I am trying to make a living and play my best, or at least try to, and make a good living.”
Next up for KrazyKanuck is the L.A. Poker Classic, which kicks off on February 24 from the Commerce Casino. The event will be covered live on PocketFivesLive.com, so be sure to check out Worth and other online poker greats in this World Poker Tour tournament. Congratulations to Worth on a great night on UltimateBet!
