On Sunday, January 14, 2007,
Miamihans chopped the
PokerStars Sunday Million for $136,000. Playing against an aggressive foe, Miamihans took down the marquee weekly tournament in his first time ever playing it. Said Hans on his big win: “Even before the $136,000 cash, I had planned to go to Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker this year. Now, I’m going for sure.”
Hans comments on the final table play, before a heads up battle with swedisrotkuk: “He was ultra-aggressive. On the very first hand, I was in the big blind with A-10. He raised from early position and the chipleader re-raised him. I folded it got back to him and he pushed all in and the chipleader folded. Swedisrotkuk showed A-9 and said not to mess with him. At this point, I already knew I just had to sit back for a while and let them go at it.” Swedisrotkuk would eventually cripple the then-chip leader.
To set up his largest online cash ever, Hans got a little help from The Donator (a.k.a. Stuart Patterson), who Instant Messaged him and suggested he propose a chop. Each would take home $136,000. Hans decided to play the Sunday Million for the first time this week on the urging of a friend: “Every week, I read on PocketFives that PokerStars’ prize pools keep getting bigger and bigger, so my friend called me on Sunday and asked me if I was going to play. He transferred me the $215 buy-in. Once I saw the starting chip stack was 10,000, I told him I was going take it down.” His first thought when he won? You guessed it: "Man, that's a lot of money, but it still hasn't quite set in yet that I won."
Hans frequently plays at his local casino, the Hard Rock. That casino has a multi-table tournament each Wednesday with an $1,100 buy-in. The event normally attracts about 100 people, and Hans has made the final table the past eight times. That’s right, eight straight times. He considers himself a poker pro and mostly plays live.
On what PocketFives.com means to him: “The site pretty much motivates me to win. I don’t usually play online, but I’ve seen some of my friends be ranked on your site and I don’t want to be left behind.” The Miami native has been a member since July.
Congratulations to Hans on his largest cash ever. We look forward to seeing him on the PocketFives.com leader boards very soon.
