Online Poker Pro Cliff Josephy Places Second in Aruba

By Dan | Published Oct 03 2006, 04:26 PM

In the fifth annual UltimateBet.com Poker Classic, online poker superstar Cliff “johnnybax” Josephy took home second place for $446,975. It was the largest single cash ever for Josephy, making six cashes for him in World Poker Tour play. Primarily an online poker player, Josephy was ranked as the number one online poker tournament player on PocketFives.com (www.pocketfives.com) for exactly seventeen months.

A bracelet winner in the 2005 World Series of Poker in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud event, Josephy entered heads up play against Devon Miller as a 6:1 chip underdog. He battled back after finding himself in fifth in chips entering final table play. Miller eliminatd half the field in the final table and took home $774,960. “JohnnyBax succeeding in yet another huge poker tournament comes as no surprise to any of us,” said PocketFives Co-Owner and Chief Editor Adam Small. “He continues to be one of the premier live and online poker players in the game.”

Josephy has been the face of PocketFives.com since the site launched in January, 2005. He took over the number one online poker tournament player ranking in April, 2005, and is widely regarded as one of the most feared players in online poker. “Cliff is an online poker legend, having stayed at the top of the PocketFives.com rankings for 17 months straight,” said Small. “There is likely no other online player that has as consistently confounded his opponents.” In one night, Josephy won the two biggest rebuy tournaments in online poker: the $30 rebuy tournament on Paradise Poker and the $10 rebuy tournament on PokerStars. Coupled with his World Series of Poker bracelet, Josephy has proven that he can succeed in both online poker and live poker.

The UltimateBet Poker Classic was followed on PocketFivesLive.com (www.pocketfiveslive.com), which provides live coverage of online poker players in the biggest live tournaments. The PocketFivesLive.com crew will now travel to the capital of poker, Las Vegas, for the Festa Al Lago, a new World Poker Tour event that will be held at the Bellagio hotel. The $10,000 buy-in tournament will commence on October 15. The final table is scheduled to be played on October 20. “We are very excited for the Festa Al Lago tournament,” said PocketFives.com President Cal Spears. “Josephy’s success and the accomplishments of our online poker players in tournaments so far mean that online poker players can compete with the best live tournament poker players out there. We look forward to continued success.”
