P5sLive Recap: P5ers Pocket Nearly $8 Million

By Dan | Published Jun 29 2007, 11:48 AM
Three weeks of the World Series of Poker are in the books. Several weeks are still to come including the Main Event, which kicks off next Friday, July 6th, in the Amazon Room at the Rio in Las Vegas. The 12-day event will be the highlight of many PocketFivers’ 2007 WSOP’s. In the first three weeks, however, many have already experienced a great deal of success. Five bracelets have been won along with over $7.6 million, on pace to shatter last year’s mark of three bracelets and $7.8 million. Steady success by some of the site’s best was the theme over the past week. All the action was tracked live on PocketFivesLive.com.

Event #35
Event “gotcha55” Kanter (pictured at right) paved the way and finished 18th for $23,576. Kanter comments on his WSOP so far: “I have been very happy with the way I have been playing. I finished 32nd in the first event and 18th in Event #35 along with a bubble in the six-handed $2,500 and $1,500 PLO8. I went out with A-A in the first event and lost a big coin flip late in #35. I have played in only seven events, but I feel very confident heading into the Main Event. I am home for my good friend Jonathan's wedding and then fly back on the fifth to play on Day 1B. My goal for the Main Event is the same as it always is: to win it. I usually set some short-term goals while it is going on, but the overall goal is always on my mind.”

Hans “miAmihAns” Winzeler finished 23rd for $20,109, his second cash in Las Vegas. JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado took home 37th and $14,215 for his efforts. Brian “LXIXME17” Hansen finished 79th for $6,587, his second cash of the WSOP. He also took second in UB’s $200,000 Guaranteed for $26,000 on June 24th.

Event #37
Event #37, a $2,000 Pot Limit Hold’em affair, saw Jordan “scarface_79” Smith (pictured at right) take 10th for nearly $11,000. His third cash of the 2007 WSOP ups his total take to over $20,000. PokerXFactor Owner Scott “mindwise” Pendergrast finished 13th for $9,812, making his members proud.

Event #38
Event #38 saw Andrew "TiltyJoker" Lee finish fifth after finding himself short-stacked in a roller coaster of a final table. With about 700,000 chips and blinds of 60,000/120,000, Lee shoved with 10-5 under the gun and John Kranyak called with K-8. A king came on the flop and was enough to eliminate Lee in fifth place for $119,447.

Eric “Rizen” Lynch (pictured at right) continued his impressive WSOP performance by cashing for the fifth time overall in Event #38. His 42nd place was worth $15,547. Other cashes in an event dominated by PocketFivers included Shane “Loonbat” Stacey, who notched $29,577 for 15th place. Loonbat started out the month of June in a strong way online with a first place finish in the PokerStars $18,000 Guaranteed for $6,000. Finishing right behind him was Joshua “pbdrunks” Vanduyn (16th place for $25,785). Another strong June online, pbdrunks already has a win in a PokerStars $100 buy-in tourney for over $19,000.

Event #40
In Event #40, the $1,500 Mixed Hold’em Limit/No Limit, poker author Michael Craig chalked up his first cash at the 2007 WSOP, grabbing seventh for $22,850. Another P5s member, Adam “green100b” Schwartz, made it into the money bubble during this event. The Jersey native took home 19th place, earning him $5,619.

Event #42
Michael “SirWatts” Watson (pictured at right) and AJ “randylerch” Kelsall were just one and two seats away from the final table, each taking home $9,000. A huge jumper in the PLB ranks with his recent online play, SirWatts has already cashed 11 times online this month, including a big win in the Stars Super Tuesday for $75,000. Wayne “CakeOrDeath” McGregor had a fine run in this $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Event, taking 22nd and $6,236, while Grayson “the_dean22” Nichols took 59th for $3,235. Nichols’ online play for this month of June has been stellar as well. He’s chalked up 20 cashes online while playing in the WSOP, including three victories.

Event #43
So close to the sixth bracelet of the year for PocketFivers, Huey Jensen (pictured right) made his way into heads-up play with Saif Ahmad in Event #43 ($2,000 Limit Hold’em), only to be taken down by Q-4 of hearts against his K-J when the flop came K-J-2 rainbow. The turn and the river brought a 10 and an ace, giving Ahmad the straight and the win. Jensen pocketed a cool $133,151. Justin “Looshle” Pechie was also in the bracelet hunt before finishing fourth for $59,274. Looshle has also had some solid online play recently, finishing second on Full Tilt’s $30,000 Guaranteed on June 20th.

Sharing success in the same event, Joe Sebok and Noah “Exclusive” Boeken took 14th and 29th, respectively. Sebok was able to pocket $8,161 during the event and Boeken’s notable play earned him $5,584 to take the total cashes by PocketFivers in WSOP Event 43 to $206,170.
