Thursday, December 28, 2006, was a historic day for PocketFives.com. Originally launched in January, 2005, the site received the Top Poker Forum award for 2006 from
Bluff Magazine. Voted on by the magazine’s readers as part of the Readers’ Choice Awards, the Top Poker Forum award represents a stamp of approval from the poker world. The awards appear in the January, 2007 edition.
The magazine’s designation read, “For a serious online player, PocketFives.com is still the best place to gloat, brag, and generally rub people's noses in your supreme poker play. Will it help you get laid? Doubtful. But will it make you more money? Likely. Will that help you get laid? Yes.” Honorable mentions for the award included 2+2, Full Contact Poker, Internet Texas Hold’Em, and Gutshot.com. “We at PocketFives.com are extremely thrilled to have won this award,” said PocketFives.com Co-Owner and Chief Editor Adam Small. “We work hard 365 days a year to bring a quality product to our users and it really gives us a great deal of satisfaction to know that what we've brought to the poker world is appreciated by so many people.” In 2005, PocketFives.com received an honorable mention for the Top Poker Forum award.
PocketFives.com Co-Owner and President Cal Spears broke the news on the Poker Discussion forum early on Thursday: “Last year we got an honorable mention, which we thought was great, but to win this year is huge for us. Thank you to everyone who voted!” 2006 represented a year of growth for PocketFives.com. The site launched its automated rankings system and monthly PLB using data from the top online poker sites. PocketFivesLive.com was launched to provide live coverage of online players in the biggest live tournaments. April saw the birth of the PocketFives.com Podcast, which features guests from around the industry along with the greatest online poker players in the world. Guests have included Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), Bluff Magazine’s Eric Morris, Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy, poker pros Annie Duke and Daniel Negreanu, 2004 World Series of Poker Champion Greg Raymer, and more.
