Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi reached online poker immortality today, as he ascended to the number one spot in the rankings, becoming only the seventh player ever to reach the top spot. Former number one ranked players are brsavage, JohnnyBax, Ari, Tmay420, BeL0WaB0Ve, and Annette_15. "Obviously this is a huge accomplishment for me, as well as something that I've been striving to achieve since mid 2006," said Sorel. "It's an honor to be a part of this prestigious group."
Imper1um's accomplishments are many in both the online poker world and the live poker world, and most recently, he won the $200 rebuy on Stars for over $38k. Not long before, he had a $29k cash and a $41k cash on the same day on Stars. Overall, he's had 22 five-figure cashes since PocketFives.com started collecting data in July of 2006. He also recently chopped the Irish Open and has been generally crushing every poker tournament he enters.
Imper1um wasn't the only P5er to become number one in a leaderboard this week. P0KERPR033, fresh off a win in the Sunday Million, is now the top player in the Sliding PLB, which plays a large role in determining the rankings. In addition to reaching the top of the PLB, he also moved up to number 4 in the rankings, making a four-spot jump that we almost never see from a player in the top ten.
Phatcat also moved back into the top 10 this week, having final tabled the Sunday $750k Guaranteed on Full Tilt, which netted him nearly $20k. Mattg1983 was also at that final table, finishing 2nd, and he moved up four spots to number 14.
Apestyles was the last big mover in the top 20, moving up four spots to number 16. He's had a number of strong recent scores, including a near final table in the Sunday Million, and this past week, his notable score was a win of nearly $24k for taking down the $100 rebuy on Stars last Thursday.
Scott "emptyseat88" Fischman continued his rise through the rankings, winning a $30 tournament for over $7k on Stars and taking second in another tourney. He moved up 12 spots this week to number 40. Not far behind were YourTimeIsUp and mman_status, who each moved up 5 spots and are ranked in the 40's. Asiandude7 continued moving upwards as well, rising 8 spots to number 49.
Bond18 is the fourth ranked player in the April PLB as of the writing of this article. He's had a number of notable scores this month, and last week was when most of them happened. These scores included three second place finishes over the weekend---the UB $500 and $120 tournaments and the Bodog $10k Guaranteed, as well as a win in the $10 rebuy on Stars for more than $13k. His ranking continues to improve drastically, and this week he is ranked 62nd, which is a gain of 10 spots.
Two brand new players entered the rankings this week as well. Agriffrod has continued to inspire those on the site who want to rise from low limit grinder status to elite tournament player status, and he's now a ranked player, settling in at the 95th spot. This past Sunday, he nearly final tabled the Sunday Million, finishing 14th overall. He also cashed in two other major events---the Full Tilt $750k and the UB $200k.
The other newly ranked player is DSnyder766, who took down a $100 tournament on Stars last Monday. He's pulled of five 5-figure cashes in 2007, including a $58k 2nd place finish in the Sunday major on Full Tilt.
