Rankings Update: Movin' up fast

By Adam | Published Feb 15 2007, 02:02 AM

Moving up through the Online Tournament Player Rankings is no easy task for anyone; it's a highly competitive environment, and most of the players you're trying to move past are also playing all the time and bolstering their PLB totals.  Worldsgrtest and basebaldy (pictured) have become mainstays in the rankings, and now they are both moving up rapidly.  Each moved up 15 spots this week into the mid 60's.

Basebaldy's week included five final tables in tracked events, including a 2nd place for over $11k in a $50 rebuy and a 7th place in the Sunday Second Chance $200.  Worldsgrtest, coming off a great week the previous week, finished 8th in the Sunday Million on Stars, which was his 3rd 5-figure score in twelve days.

Up in the top 10, Tmay420 reclaimed the number 3 spot this week, and both atimos and JohnnyBax also each moved up a spot.  PokerJoe9, following a continued tremendous performance at the tables, moved into the top 10 for the first time ever, laying claim to the number 9 spot.

PearlJammer also inched back towards the top 10, moving up two spots to number 13.  He's got a good shot to get back there next week, as he's already won a $150 on Full Tilt in the new week.  His last week included a 10th place in the Full Tilt $300 FTOPS event and a win in the UB $30 rebuy....pretty standard for him, at this point.

Andy McLEOD also continued his rise, which has basically taken over a paragraph of this article every week for a while now.  He's now the number 14 ranked player, and he's actually number 6 in the sliding PLB, which shows a lot about the kind of results he's been able to put up.

Ari's Sunday Warm Up win paid off bigtime in the rankings, as he moved back up to 21 in the sliding PLB and secured a spot in the top 20 once again.  He moved up 5 spots to number 16 this week.

A few other big movers in the top 25 were mr. menlo (up 7 spots to number 18), ComeOnPhish (up 6 spots to number 21), RandALLin (up 5 spots to number 24), and GB2005 (up 7 spots to number 25).  Menlo had yet another great week in tournaments, which included a $13k win in the Full Tilt $150.

JINXY_MONKEY and four6suited made solid jumps of 5 spots each, and both of them have secured a place in the top 40.  Four6suited had a $13k Sunday cash on Stars, and JINXY had several nice cashes including a win in a $100 Stars freezeout.  M8kingMoves (lilholdem954) also moved up 5 spots to number 44, having won a $100 rebuy in the past week.

P5er Phwap made a big jump this week of 10 spots, following a couple impressive weeks at the tables.  It's been a couple months since he final tabled the Sunday Million, but he's not been entirely quiet since, and in the past week, he just missed the final table of another major event--Event 1 of the FTOPS.  He also took 4th in a $150 on Full Tilt, and he's now number 76 in the rankings.

Some other big movers just below Phwap were moorman1 and LUHMAN, who jumped 12 and 10 spots respectively.  Moorman1 had two wins last week--a PokerStars $50 for $9,500 and a PartyPoker $30 rebuy for $5,500.  LUHMAN's rise was due to a very large win of $33k in the Sunday $100 rebuy on PokerStars.

Several new players moved into the rankings this week, the highest of which was Himclip85, who recently won the Stars $150 and entered the rankings at number 83.  Not far below him was two8off, who's been ranked before and re-entered the rankings at number 85.  Huge field expert UGOTPZD made it in at number 90.

The last two new players in the rankings are also not really "new" players there.  JOEYTHEB has been a long time standout in the online tournament scene, and he came in this week at number 97.  HB_HITMAN is the new 99th ranked player, though he's been a part of the rankings for many weeks in the past and has also won a PocketFives.com Triple Crown.

Check back next week for all the latest news regarding the PocketFives.com Online Tournament Player Rankings.
