Blogging, Poker, and Stripping at Foxwoods

By Dan | Published Apr 27 2009, 08:14 PM |

The beauty of blogging is that you can write about whatever you want. Just took a bad beat? Write about it. Is the girlfriend getting you down? Write about it. Just saw someone’s pants fall down while playing poker at Foxwoods? That’s good fodder too. Steven dtools22 DiTullio has opened up his life to the rest of the community here at PocketFives.com in a series of blogs discussing his poker adventures. One of his personal favorites is the story of an inadvertent stripping at Foxwoods. PocketFives.com sat down with DiTullio, who hails from Worcester, Massachusetts, to get the inside scoop on several popular poker blog entries.

In January, DiTullio recalled an experience at Foxwoods (pictured at left) that took place during a $4/$8 Limit Hold’em game. A 5’8” heavy-set man sat down directly across the table from the PocketFiver, quickly dropped $100, and then reloaded. After about two hours, it was time to depart. However, when the man got up, his pants didn’t follow. DiTullio wrote, “There he was, standing in the poker room, jeans at his ankles, wearing a pair of stained and disgusting looking tighy-whiteys that were screaming under the stress of this man’s waist.” DiTullio quickly wrote about his unique experience on PocketFives.com. The New Englander is one of a handful of members who have shared their stories with the entire online poker community.

Another one of his favorite blog entries surrounded a $50 last longer bet between DiTullio and fellow PocketFiver kyzersosa1. The origins of the competitive bet stem back to a hand that took place during the $4.40 buy-in Limit Hold’em $2,000 Guaranteed on PokerStars. DiTullio picked up aces and raised. Another player at the table re-raised and kyzersosa1 called. The player on the big blind capped and the table called around. The flop came K-J-3 rainbow. DiTullio once again bet and the same action that occurred prior to the flop once again transpired. The turn came a five. DiTullio led out and kyzersosa1 called; the two were the only remaining players in the hand at that point. The river came an eight. DiTullio bet and kyzersosa1 called, flipping over KDiamond 6Diamond.

DiTullio quickly reacted, noting in his blog entry, “This guy called three bets cold twice with KDiamond 6Diamond and then top pair no kicker on the flop. I put a note on him saying he'll pay me off with TPNK and moved on with the hand.” Then, the action quickly escalated in the table chat after kyzersosa1 allegedly berated his opponents. A $50 last longer bet between the two adversaries panned out in a thread in Poker Discussion. DiTullio told us, “I didn’t think there was a snowball’s chance in Hell that I would lose. My whole intention was to have a laugh at his expense. Kyzersosa1’s first posts on PocketFives.com in the four years he’s had an account were in response to this.” The PocketFiver from Vermont now has 22 posts to his name after joining the site in October of 2005.

DiTullio became interested in poker as a kid while playing cards with his mother. His interest was piqued even further in 1998 and 2002, when he caught telecasts of Scotty Nguyen and Robert Varkonyi, respectively, winning the World Series of Poker Main Event. From there, his experience was rather typical. He recalled, “My friends and I started a home game where we played a very bad version of Texas Hold’em. It essentially became a super turbo capped game. From there, I began playing online.”

He told PocketFives.com what he aims to achieve while blogging on the site: “When I started the blog, I wanted to do it for a little while, but I wasn’t sure that I had a lot to say; I’m a low-stakes grinder. Then, these things started happening to me, so I wanted to tell a story and make some people laugh in the process. I like reading things that will kill 20 minutes and that I’ll get a good laugh out of. I like being entertained by poker.” He’s also written about people he’s pitied during his poker career, what his favorite activities are in his free time, and how class at Worcester Polytechnic Institute interferes with playing the game he loves.

He’s a junior at the Institute and will graduate in May of 2010 with an actuary major and entrepreneurship minor. DiTullio told PocketFives.com, “I have built a degree to acquire and manage large sums of money. A few friends of mine started a media company. We shot a movie that will hopefully be in a festival in Sacramento.” The 92 minute movie is called Something Remote (screen shot at right) and chronicles the college careers of DiTullio and two of his friends.

At the time of writing, DiTullio has nearly 30 blog entries to his name. PocketFivers can join DiTullio and blog about their own experiences at the tables, or whatever is on their mind, by visiting the “Blog Editor” in their profile. I just played with a guy at irish open who was telling me about a story when he was playing somewhere in the US. He said he had just had surgery around his stomach area and the doctor had told him not to button up his pants because that area needed to be loose.  He said he stood up to leave and his pants fell down completely lol

Not sure if this is the same guy or not but if so he had a legit excuse! :p
