Brainwash Wins FTOPS Event 23

By Dan | Published Aug 17 2008, 09:47 AM

It’s here! Today is the Main Event of the ninth Full Tilt Online Poker Series. The $535 buy-in Main Event starts at 6:00pm (18:00 GMT) and we’re looking forward to reporting on a winner from PocketFives.com tomorrow. In the meantime, Event #23 of FTOPS IX, which occurred last night, was won by PocketFiver brainwash. The San Diego native emerged victorious in the $100 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha Hi tournament (with Rebuys), cashing for $95,535. Two other PocketFivers joined brainwash at the final table. Willcutyou finished seventh, taking home $12,738. Jerome tonijeromi Evans rounded out the PocketFives contingent at the final table, landing in eighth place and cashing for $9,554.

Brainwash (pictured at left) became the ninth PocketFiver to take down an FTOPS IX tournament out of 22 events completed so far. Andy McLEOD emerged victorious yesterday in Event #21. Other winners of FTOPS tournaments include rrs2982, bfineman, shaundeeb, ryanbluf, ryanghall, CapTinBisKuiT, and Telefonkiosk, who took down Event #2. In Event #23, 1,058 entrants competed. Brainwash has a healthy number of quality online wins, led by a $98,750 cash in the Full Tilt Poker $1K Monday in March. He also took down the $100 buy-in $30,000 Guaranteed (one rebuy plus one add-on) on Full Tilt two weeks ago for $20,896. He final tabled the UltimateBet $200K Guaranteed in May for $13,000, just one week after winning the $215 Weekly HORSE ($25,000 Guaranteed) tournament on PokerStars for $8,925.

In seventh place on Saturday night in Event #23 was willcutyou, who hails from Cameroon. He’s won the $100 buy-in $60,000 Guarantee (with rebuys) as well as the $69 buy-in $17,500 Guarantee on Full Tilt Poker. Recent notable cashes include a sixth place finish in the $1K Monday on Full Tilt last month for $12,700. Earlier in August, he racked up $5,274 for a seventh place finish in the PokerStars $55 rebuy. In July, willcutyou logged 18 cashes in tournaments that are tracked for the PocketFives.com Rankings, taking home a total of $51,617. He is the only PocketFiver who lists himself as being from the country of Cameroon, which is located on the West Coast of Africa.

Jerome tonijeromi Evans also made the final table of Event #23, finishing eighth. The native of Bremen, Germany is fresh off a $58,590 cash in the Sunday Million in late July by virtue of finishing fifth. It was, and remains, his largest online cash. He cashed three times in a four-week span in late July and early August in the PokerStars marquee tournament. He also has cashes in the Daily Fifty Grand and Sunday Warm-Up.

Tonight, the entire poker world will be focused squarely on Full Tilt Poker, where the Main Event of FTOPS IX will kick off. One other tournament is on the docket this afternoon. In addition, the final table of the $2,500 buy-in Two Day tournament will take place. Here’s a look at the schedule for Sunday:

Event #24: $120 No Limit Hold’em Knockout
$400K Guaranteed
Today at 2:00pm ET (18:00 GMT)

FTOPS IX Main Event: $500 No Limit Hold’em
$2.5 Million Guaranteed
Today at 6:00pm ET (18:00 GMT)

Good luck to all PocketFivers in the Main Event tonight. We’ll have a complete recap of all of the Sunday major tournaments tomorrow on PocketFives.com.
