Chris “moorman1” Moorman Wins Fourth Triple Crown

By Dan | Published Aug 05 2008, 09:33 PM |

It’s not very often that a PocketFiver takes home a Triple Crown. The feat has been accomplished 20 times since the beginning of 2008. The most recent winner was none other than Chris moorman1 Moorman, who notched his fourth career Triple Crown, the most among any PocketFiver to date. His hat trick was accomplished by winning the $6K Guaranteed on PartyPoker, the $50 Cubed (one rebuy plus one add-on) on PokerStars, and the $30 rebuy on iPoker. He also logged a win in the Titan Poker $20K Guaranteed rebuy on Saturday, giving him four tournament wins to his name in the required seven day time period. PocketFives sat down with its number two ranked online tournament player to get his reaction.

Moorman commented, “It feels good. There were a bunch of players who had three Triple Crowns, so I really wanted to be the first to get to four.” Those with a trio of headwear include Scott SCTrojans Freeman, who took home all three of his Triple Crowns in a span of two weeks last May. The Netherlands’ own busto_soon owns three Triple Crowns and is currently a top-ranked player on the site. Jeremy Chipsteela Menard has also taken down three Triple Crowns. As you can see, there is a crowded field right behind Moorman.

On what the Triple Crown actually means to him, Moorman commented, “It’s a good achievement because it shows that you can win on different sites and, quite often, you have to change up your game to be able to succeed on each site. The Triple Crown also means that you’re a winning player on every site that you play on. In my mind, that’s something that you need to be able to do if you want to be considered a top player.” He took down his other three Triple Crowns on August 17, 2007; March 7, 2008; and June 1, 2008. Notable online wins include a massive $82,750 win in the Full Tilt $1K Monday back in April. Moorman also emerged victorious in the $530 buy-in High Roller $30K Guaranteed on PartyPoker in May for nearly $20,000.

The UK product got his start in poker by finishing second in a student freeroll, which started his bankroll without an initial deposit. He noted, “Obviously there were ups and downs, but thankfully the majority of swings have been up.” He logged his first two World Series of Poker cashes in 2008, taking home about $7,000 for his efforts. On his live poker run, Moorman quipped, “My next goal is to make it big in live poker. If I can do that, I'm not really sure about my long-term goals. I struggle to plan for next week!”

He logged a massive 79 cashes in tournaments that are tracked for the PocketFives Worldwide Rankings in July for nearly $170,000 total. On whose game this accomplished poker star respects the most, he commented, “I’d have to say Scott SCTrojans Freeman and Isaac mr. menlo Baron. They play at a different level to pretty much everyone else. I have been fortunate enough to be able to discuss a lot of hands with Scott and I have yet to find a hand that has caused him problems.” Baron finished third in a $1,050 buy-in UBOC tournament in December for almost $75,000. He’s also won the $200 rebuy on PokerStars for $57,695. Freeman took down the $65K Guaranteed on Full Tilt Poker last month for $25,000.

In case you’re not familiar with what it takes to win a Triple Crown on PocketFives.com, a person must win three multi-table tournaments with at least a $10K prize pool across three different sites tracked for the Rankings within one week. Each tournament must have at least 100 entrants and satellites are not counted. There have been over 100 Triple Crowns awarded ever since the first one logged by slugo5 in May, 2005. Other winners have included Cliff JohnnyBax Josephy, Eric basebaldy Baldwin, and Jon PearlJammer Turner.
