Dyzalot: the man with nine lives

By Lenny | Published May 17 2007, 05:51 PM

Not many players have won multiple Triple Crowns, but this week, Joe “Dyzalot” Morneau has added a second Triple Crown to his already impressive resume. Dyzalot enters the list of double Crown holders which includes dmmikkel, JohnnyBax, Annette_15, Gator93, Pearljammer, Ari, TheBeat and Colson10. The race is on amongst these elite online players to be the first to claim the first Triple Triple Crown. Dyzalot puts up impressive results, and his Triple Crown came with some very impressive scores as well. He took down the UltimateBet $109 for a nice appetizer of $3,780 and the Full Tilt Poker $150 for $13,800, which made a nutritious meal with plenty of green. The real icing on the cake (and the leg that completed the crown just in time) was the PokerStars $162, which earned him a very sweet $22,813.

Dyzalot’s second crown earned him 673 PLB points, a very respectable score, though not as high as his first crown, which was one of the biggest ever at 884 PLB points. When this guy gets the opportunity to make a big score, he doesn’t mess around. He also hasn’t slowed down at all in the last week since his crown. He has added a second place in the UB Sunday major (worth $27,000) and another win on FTP for $9,438. Some might say he is just enjoying the upside of variance, and to a small extent that may be true, but Dyzalot has been putting up results of this caliber for quite some time.

As you may have seen on the boards lately, there has been a flurry of Triple Crowns and near misses lately. Chucksty missed his second Crown by a matter of hours (his first win expired by the time he got his third), and several P5ers managed to win two tournaments on different sites this week. When asked if he thought the standards of the Triple Crown were too easy, Dyzalot responded:

“I think it depends on how exclusive a club you want it to be.  My feeling is that if I can do it then a large number of P5ers probably also have a reasonable chance of attaining the crown.  I wouldn't be opposed to changes that would make only tourneys of over 25K count or maybe making it so you would need three wins of 5K or more each.”

Perhaps that is part of the appeal of the Triple Crown. It is certainly not easy, but it is attainable to anyone who plays poker on multiple sites. Poker is of course a democratic game. Anyone with a few dollars to rub together can sit down and try their luck. While the Triple Crown should remain a mark of distinction among top Poker Players, part of the fun is that it is an attainable goal. It wouldn’t be near as much fun if we were referring to Dyzalot in the same breath as Affirmed, the last horse to win the honor on the race track. He did so in 1978.

Dyzalot plays live cash games regularly to keep himself sharp, as well as to cash in on their profitability. He plans to be in Las Vegas for most of June and July, although he hasn’t decided which WSOP events to play as of yet. Joe missed out on the Pocketfives Bowling party in Vegas last year, and I’m sure those who were there are glad he did. He hasn’t picked up a ball in a while, but as recently as last year he was a pretty serious league bowler with an average in the 210-220 range. That would’ve been good enough to clean everyone out, especially given the way the prop bets were flying. Whether it’s in the bowling alley or across the table, Dyzalot is a man to be reckoned with.
