ElkY Wins World Poker Tour Festa al Lago

By Dan | Published Oct 27 2008, 08:31 AM

Team PokerStars Pro member and PocketFiver Bertrand ElkY Grospellier dominated the final table of the World Poker Tour Festa al Lago, eliminating each of the other five players and amassing $1.4 million in the process. Grospellier sent fellow PocketFiver Adam Roothlus Levy packing in fifth place. The newest member of the Ultimate Bet Star Players Team, Levy took home $266,445 for his efforts. There were 368 players who entered the Festa al Lago and its $15,000 buy-in created the largest prize pool in the tournament’s history. Let’s take a look at the action from the final table, which was held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

William Mietz was ousted by Grospellier in sixth place. Grospellier raised to just over twice the big blind and Mietz called. On a board of 9-7-4-9, Grospellier bet and Mietz pushed all in over the top. Grospellier called, showing A-10 for ace high, dominating Mietz’s K-10 for king high. Mietz couldn’t catch up and Grospellier claimed his first victim.

Adam Roothlus Levy, who recently became the newest member of UB’s Star Players team, joining Cliff JohnnyBax Josephy and James P0KERPR033 Campbell, was sent packing in fifth place. Levy moved in over the top of a raise by Grospellier, who called. Levy flipped over A-9 and ElkY showed pocket queens. The turn card came a queen, which sealed Grospellier’s win in the hand and gave him two-thirds of the chips in play. Levy’s fifth place in the Festa al Lago was worth $266,445.

The next to go was Full Tilt Poker pro Nenad Medic. On the button, Medic pushed with pocket sixes and was called by Grospellier, who was in the big blind with K-J. The flop came jack high and Medic’s hand never improved. ElkY’s win in the hand gave him 80% of the chips in play.

Although through a series of double ups Grospellier lost the chip lead briefly, he quickly righted the ship. Osmin Dardon finished in third place. Grospellier opened the pot with a raise, Dardon re-raised, and ElkY pushed with 10-2. Dardon called and showed A-J. However, a two on the flop was all Grospellier needed to win the hand and procure a commanding 15:1 chip advantage heads up over Nam Le.

Le doubled up twice early on, however on the final hand, he was all in on a coin flip holding A-Q against Grospellier’s pocket tens. A ten-high flop helped secure the WPT Festa al Lago title and eliminations of every person at the final table by Grospellier. Here were the final standings:
1st Place: Bertrand Grospellier - $1,411,015
2nd Place: Nam Le - $943,215
3rd Place: Osmin Dardon - $506,245
4th Place: Nenad Medic - $373,010
5th Place: Adam Levy - $266,445
