The final table of the World Poker Tour’s World Poker Finals is set and among the six players who will take to the field on Tuesday is PocketFiver Jonathan FieryJustice Little. He enters the televised table third in chips with 2.0 million, trailing the 4.1 million stack of Jon Jaffe. The cards hit the felt at 5:00pm Eastern Time from Foxwoods, which plays host to the World Poker Finals. Live at the tournament is PocketFivesLive.com Tournament Reporter Court Harrington, who has been providing WPT coverage of online poker players throughout the course of the event. Let’s take a look at who’s left in the hallmark World Poker Tour stop.
Here are the six players who remain along with their chip stacks:
Jon Jaffe - 4,131,000
David Pham - 2,038,000
Jonathan FieryJustice Little - 2,021,000
Charles Marchese - 1,718,000
Jack Schanbacher - 1,592,000
Mike Matusow - 816,000
Little is arguably the most successful player on the WPT circuit of the six who remain. He won WPT Player of the Year honors during Season VI. During that time, he logged four cashes, including two final tables and one championship, for a total of $1.9 million. Little won the Mirage Poker Showdown, defeating fellow PocketFiver Cory UGOTPZD Carroll heads-up and taking home $1.1 million. Also at that final table were Darrell Gigabet Dicken, Richard Kirsch, Amnon Filippi, and Full Tilt Poker pro Phil Ivey.
Also during Season VI, Little finished second at the North American Poker Championship and cashed for $680,000. That tournament was won by Scott BigRiskky Clements, who showed that he can dominate both Omaha and Hold’em poker tournaments. PocketFivers Barry barryg1 Greenstein and Jeff ActionJeff Garza also reached the final table of the North American Poker Championship, which is held in October from the Fallsview Casino in Ontario, Canada.
Little also reached the final table of the 2007 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which was ultimately won by Ryan Daut44 Daut. On his game plan headed into final table play on Tuesday, he told WPT Live Updates Hostess Amanda Leatherman, “It depends on how aggressive [my opponents] decide to be. If they’re too aggressive, then I’ll be aggressive. If they all super nit, then I’ll probably be nitty with them.” On his opponents, he added, “David Pham is the greatest player in the world. In tournament poker, David Pham is the best. He always knows what I have. He beat me in a Mirage heads-up tournament about a year and a half ago. He destroyed me.”
Harrington told PocketFives.com, “Little is going into his fourth WPT final table in the last two years. With a victory and second place finish already under his belt, he has the experience to compete with one of the tougher final tables in recent WPT history. He also has a good seating draw, with the other two largest stacks and most aggressive players on his right in the forms of Jon Jaffe and David Pham.”
The final hand of play on Monday saw Little call an all-in raise from Anthony Newman. Little held K-Q of spades and Newman flipped over pocket fours. The flop came queen high and the turn and river were no help to Newman, who became the bubble boy of the televised final table. Two hands prior, Matusow doubled up Marchese when his pocket tens fell to Marchese’s pocket kings. Matusow lost about half of his chip stack in the hand, but still remains in contention for the WPT title at Foxwoods.
Little and company will be in the hunt for the $1.1 million first place prize. Each player is guaranteed at least $124,000:
1st Place: $1,120,310
2nd Place: $670,636
3rd Place: $337,256
4th Place: $240,344
5th Place: $182,196
6th Place: $124,048
