Full Tilt Launches Two Holiday $100K Tournaments

By Dan | Published Dec 26 2008, 11:08 AM

On Saturday and Sunday, Full Tilt Poker is running a pair of $100,000 guaranteed tournaments in its own attempt to spread a little holiday cheer. While its major competitor in the market, PokerStars, is offering the World’s Largest Poker Tournament on Sunday, Full Tilt Poker is giving its members a chance to turn 2,000 Full Tilt Points (FTPs) into a sack full of cash. Each of the Holiday $100K tournaments kicks off at 3:15pm Eastern Time on Saturday and Sunday and are capped when the total number of entrants reaches 10,000. It’s one of several holiday promotions occurring on one of the world’s most popular online poker sites.

Here are the critical details you need to know about Full Tilt Poker’s Holiday $100K tournaments. They kick off on Saturday and Sunday, December 27th and December 28th, at 3:15pm ET. Full Tilt originally scheduled just one Holiday $100K on Saturday. However, an extra tournament was added to the mix on Sunday, complimenting the site’s already rich event offering on that day. Each of the Holiday $100K tournaments does not have any monetary buy-in. Instead, 2,000 FTPs are all it takes to become part of the field.

If you don’t have 2,000 FTPs, then you’re not entirely out of luck. You can still take part in the Holiday $100K events by winning a satellite for as little as 50 FTPs. If that number is still way out of your bankroll, don’t fret. Full Tilt is running recurring freerolls which kick off at 40 minutes past every hour. The only exceptions are hours when a $100 freeroll is scheduled, in which case no freeroll to the Holiday $100K takes place. The final freeroll opportunity occurs on Saturday, December 27th, so make sure to head to Full Tilt Poker and win your way in for free before then. Satellites can be found in the Full Tilt Poker lobby under the “Satellites” tab.

In addition to shelling out $200,000 in prize money to its members over the weekend in addition to its regular tournament offering, Full Tilt is also offering special 3Xmas Happy Hour opportunities. Normally, these special time periods allow players on the site to rack up FTPs at accelerated rates. Tournaments and cash games that qualify are identified by a little yellow smiley face in the software’s lobby. Double or triple points are available on the site during customary Happy Hours. However, during the 3Xmas Happy Hour, the number of Full Tilt Points accrued by players is tripled.

Extended Happy Hours are also available today (Friday, December 26th), next Wednesday (December 31st), and next Thursday (January 1st). Happy Hours will be extended three times longer than normal as members strive to gain enough points to enter the Holiday $100K events or other tournaments on the site. FTPs can also be redeemed in the Full Tilt Poker Store for merchandise such as plasma televisions, custom site jerseys, and even a Mini Cooper S, which was made famous by the movie “The Italian Job” starring Mark Wahlberg. By the way, the Mini Cooper S will run you six million FTPs.

Full Tilt regularly hosts the $750K Guaranteed tournament, one of the weekly Sunday majors across held the major online poker sites. Last week, the room ran its monthly $1 Million Guaranteed, which was won by none other than PocketFiver Steven PiKappRaider Burkholder, who is ranked 46th on the PocketFives.com Online Poker Rankings. His win in the $1 Million Guaranteed earned him over $200,000. The $750K Guaranteed regularly comes with a $216 buy-in and features several thousand competitors each week. Frank Hernandez, better known as gator93 online, took second in the $1 Million Guaranteed last week for $123,000.

Last week on Full Tilt, Johan busto_soon Van Til took down the $240+16 buy-in Sunday Brawl, which has a $350,000 guaranteed prize pool. Van Til, who is one of the top players in The Netherlands, took home nearly $80,000 for his efforts. The Sunday Mulligan is the third and final major held over the weekend. Last week, a familiar face in the poker world, Annette Annette_15 Obrestad, took second in the Sunday Brawl. Obrestad won the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event in 2007, pocketing $2 million in the process.

Check out the Holiday $100K tournaments on Saturday and Sunday at 3:15pm ET either day on Full Tilt Poker.
