The Casino at the Empire in London has played host to some of the world’s elite poker players as part of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. Among them have been several members of PocketFives.com. Sitting with a top ten chip stack headed into Day 3 of this massive live event on Tuesday is one of the online poker world’s best players, Chris Moorman1 Moorman. The native of the United Kingdom, Moorman is currently number two in the PocketFives Online Poker Rankings. He holds 219,500 chips, good for seventh overall. All of the action from the Casino at the Empire can be found on PocketFivesLive.com, your top source for WSOPE coverage of online poker players in major live events.
Among the bevy of accolades that Moorman has is his five Triple Crown wins. They came on 8/17/07, 3/7/08, 6/1/08, 8/3/08 and 8/16/08. He’s ranked second in both the PLB and Pro Poll. Last week, he was ranked number one overall, but swapped places with Alex AJKHoosier1 Kamberis. So far in September, he’s racked up 58 cashes in tournaments that count for the Rankings, cashing for over $140,000. He won the $100 rebuy ($70,000 Guaranteed) on PokerStars last Thursday for $17,000. He finished fifth in the $300,000 Guaranteed version of the $100 rebuy on Stars one week ago for another $20,000. He won the $1K Monday on Full Tilt Poker for $82,750 back in April and has 219,500 chips as he enters Day 3 in London.
Justin Boosted J Smith (pictured at left) sits with 217,700 chips, the eighth largest chip stack overall and right on the heels of Moorman. He took 32nd in the $10,300 buy-in event of the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker for $19,620. PocketFivesLive.com Tournament Reporter Court Harrington, who has been on the scene in London covering the event, commented, “The Day 1 big stack curse didn't have much of an effect on Justin. He played a very solid steady game today, which is exactly what is called for on a Day 2 when you have a big stack. If he continues to adjust his game according to each stage of the tournament, don't be surprised to see him turn up at the final table on Thursday.”
Brian aba20 Townsend, an instructor for CardRunners, is second in chips overall with 290,100. He has 31,500 fewer chips than the leader, Full Tilt Poker pro Andy Bloch. Harrington commented on Townsend’s high level of skill: “In any game or sport, there are always a select few that can turn it up an extra notch when they are on the biggest stage. In poker, Brian Townsend is one of the guys that excels when he is playing at the highest level. He is taking advantage of the big stage to showcase his top-notch abilities.”
Tim Tmay420 West (pictured at right) ended the day with a 58,600 chip stack. He took eighth place in the $1,500 rebuy Pot Limit Omaha tournament during the 2008 World Series of Poker, cashing for $72,000. West is no stranger to televised final tables. He took third in the WPT Celebrity Invitational during Season V. That tournament was won by Adam Weinraub. Harrington noted, “West showed immense patience today, fighting with around 10 big blinds for most of the day. He was able to stay patient, get lucky when he had to, and by the day’s end had increased his stack to almost the average going into Day 3. His knack for survival is hard to explain, but in tournament poker survival is the name of the game for the first few days.”
