The second and final day of the Dream Team Poker event at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) occurs this afternoon. Holding the seventh largest tally as play enters the home stretch is Peter petegotaplan Lubrano, who will come armed to Monday’s finale with a stack of 165,000. He appeared on Team The Maven VT 2 and is the only member of his squad left standing. Team Reckless’ Roberto Diaz paces the field with 332,000 chips, while Winner Winner Chicken Dinner’s Jordan Hill sits with the second largest stack at 252,000. The tournament is being held in the Brasilia Room at the Rio, down the hall from the 2009 WSOP Main Event. For coverage of the latter tournament, check out PocketFivesLive.com.
A total of 366 players put up the $560 buy-in and formed 122 teams in Dream Team Poker’s third tournament, a non-bracelet event. Last time out, 148 teams and 444 players turned out to Dream Team Poker’s first open event, which was held at Caesars Palace. On Sunday, the field of 366 was trimmed down to 27. Currently in the Top 10 is Lubrano, who hails from Brooklyn, New York. He took second in a Mini Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) event in May for $10,000. To open the month of February, Lubrano finished as the runner-up in a $55 buy-in tournament on Full Tilt for $7,200.
The top teams and individuals finish in the money in Dream Team Poker events. The practice assures that players keep their own interests in mind and helps curb collusion at the tables. The top three-man team will pocket a total of $33,000, while the event’s individual winner will take home $16,000. Here is how the final field of 27 looks entering today’s play. A bevy of PocketFivers registered for the event including Justin ZeeJustin Bonomo (pictured at right), who teamed up with fellow Bodog pros Evelyn Ng and David Williams to form the aptly-named Team Bodog. Barry barryg1 Greenstein joined forces with Joe Stapleton to comprise Team PokerRoad.com and David The Maven Chicotsky served as the namesake for three teams promoting his virtual training site. Also spotted in the field was Bryan bmicon Micon, who competed alongside Dustin Woolf on Team NeverWinPoker.com.
Team PokerStars Pro member Tom McEvoy, who is fresh off a win in the WSOP Champions Invitational, commented in a press release why the popularity of Dream Team Poker has spread like wildfire: “In a Dream Team Poker event, you want to try harder because you don’t want to let your teammates down.
