The fifth
Full Tilt Poker Online Poker Series wrapped up over the weekend and PocketFivers made a smash throughout. With over $7 million in guarantees, members of the online poker community were out in full force taking top spots in nearly every event. Three PocketFivers finished on top of their events:
GBecks took down Event 5,
Round42 won Event7, and
Plattsburgh came out on top in Event 9. With No Limit, Omaha, and HORSE events up for grabs, PocketFivers shined on
Full Tilt Poker.
GBecks (pictured at right), currently 81st on the PocketFives Online Tournament Player Rankings, took down Event 5 of the FTOPS, a $109 No Limit event with rebuys. He cashed for $102,383 and quickly received nearly 700 points towards the rankings. GBecks beat out a field of 1,678 players. In the same event, GB2005 took fifth for $29,101.06. GBecks crushed his previous biggest online cash of $53,000 in the PartyPoker Million last year. He commented, “I've been looking for a house for the past three weeks in the Kansas City area, so this will help with that.” Before the final table began, he set himself up for success: “I raised with A-A and was quickly re-raised which I just called. The flop came A-K-K and I was check-called on the flop and turn. On the river, my opponent check-shoved and showed A-K. It was a pot to take over the chip lead!” He overcame a 6:1 chip deficit heads up to win in the end.
Round42 (pictured at right) came out on top in Event 7, a $1,060 No Limit event with a $1 million guarantee. 1,282 players showed up for the event. Round42 emerged victorious, pocketing $262,169. He is remembered for his final table performance at the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure (taking sixth for $247,234) and just won the PocketFives Triple Crown on August 5th. He commented, “I had one hand deep in the money when I raised with A-J of clubs and was flat called pre-flop by K-K. The flop came eight high with two clubs. I led out and the K-K shoved. I called and hit one of my 12 outs for a big pot. I wasn't all in with my entire stack at risk too often. I was top 10 in chips for a good portion of the tournament.”
Event 7 was a 6-max tournament, which Round42 enjoyed: “The best thing about this tournament was that it was 6-max. I haven't played a lot of 6-max tourneys before this, but they are definitely a lot more fun with the increased action. I wouldn't be surprised to see 6-max tournaments begin to dominate the online poker world in the not-so-distant future.”
Plattsburgh (pictured at right) and mr. menlo had heads turning in Event 9, a $322 No Limit tournament that attracted 1,133 poker enthusiasts. Plattsburgh plays as mattyv on FullTilt and walked away $209.792.70 richer. Menlo plays as mjorgenson13 on Full Tilt and took fifth for $53,328.60. It was Plattsburgh’s 17th cash that counted for the rankings this month. He comments on his road to the final table: “There were a lot of key hands during the tournament. When I started to get chips with around 200 players left, I just played very aggressively because it was shorthanded. I found myself the chip leader with 18 left and basically just raised a lot. I had a few lucky hands to make the final table, one of which was against Scarface_79. I had kings on the button (perfect spot), raised 3x, he three bet me, and I shoved. He snapped with pocket nines. The flop was 9-J-8, the turn was a queen, and the river was a king! It was such a sick hand that took me to a million chips and helped me become chip leader when the final table started.”
Another key hand for Plattsburgh involved bluffing fellow PocketFiver SirWatts: “I believe he raised and I re-raised out of the blinds with 9-6. The flop was 8-8-3. I led out and he called (with two spades on the flop). The turn was a four. I led again and he called again. A king hit the river and I made an 80,000 chip bet into 100,000 pot and he folded. Plattsburgh’s take in Event 9 was four times as large as his previous biggest cash. He’s looking to purchase a new car after the big score.
Ditka89 took seventh in the $200 Omaha High Low event for $6,438. In his words, “I was chip leader for most of last two hours, so I was disappointed with my seventh place finish. I took the chip lead when I took out the eighth place guy, but lost the next five hands I played.”
Congratulations to all PocketFivers who cashed in the FTOPS. We look forward to continued success from each of you in the future. To check out the complete recap of the FTOPS, visit Full Tilt Poker today.
