PocketFivers Win Nine FTOPS Events

By Dan | Published Nov 18 2008, 09:10 AM

There were 25 events that comprised the tenth Full Tilt Online Poker Series. Members of PocketFives.com flocked to Full Tilt in droves, each searching for their share of the $15 million that was up for grabs. When the smoke cleared on Sunday after the $500+35 Main Event had concluded, PocketFivers had nabbed nine of the 25 titles up for grabs, or 36% of the tournaments. The largest payday by a PocketFiver was the $550,000 score by Amit amak316 Makhija, who took down the $5,200 buy-in 6-Max two-day event, besting a field of 500 entrants. Other familiar names like Cliff JohnnyBax Josephy and Dan djk123 Kelly also claimed victories. Let’s review the action from the past week and a half on Full Tilt Poker.

Floridian teamshizz set the tone for PocketFivers in FTOPS X, winning Event #2, a $240+16 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha Knockout tournament. There were 1,165 entrants and "teamshizz" pocketed $51,260 for his efforts. In May, he took second in the $50k Guaranteed on PokerStars for $8,216. Three other PocketFivers appeared at the final table: xxd33pxx (fourth for $18,931), dmschec (eighth for $4,893), and knickadam55 (ninth for $3,495). The top 135 spots paid out.

Jeff jeffbeesdat Gray took down Event #4, a $322 buy-in cubed *1r+1a* tournament, for $138,000. Known as GrampaJeff on Full Tilt Poker, Gray muscled through a field of 558 players en route to a victory heads-up over fellow PocketFiver GambleAB. In July, Gray won the $100 rebuy on PokerStars for $26,840, one month after making the final table of the Sunday Million for $33,824. He’s #70 on the PocketFives.com Online Poker Rankings. Finishing sixth in Event #4 was darrenelias, who took home $18,000.

Tommy2tyme’s win in Event #5 meant that PocketFivers had captured titles in three of the first five events of FTOPS X. This tournament was a $200+16 buy-in Limit Hold’em 6-Max event that drew 879 combatants. The top 102 spots paid out and Tommy2tyme won $37,533. He finished second in the Sunday Million one year ago for $126,412 and cashed in the Sunday Warm-Up last month.

Casey bigdogpckt5s Jarzabek won Event #9, a $300+22 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament, for $277,930. The event attracted a healthy 5,370 players and the final table was chalk full of members of the online poker community. The 87th ranked player on PocketFives.com, Jarzabek won the $530 buy-in Super Saturday on Absolute Poker in March for $62,500. The Canadian finished fourth in the $300K Guaranteed on PartyPoker in June for $16,350. Jarzabek defeated LexLuthor85 heads-up. Stamdogg, markysals11, Wachovia, and SN8WMAN also made the final table.

Nick agriffrod Mitchell found success in the $1,060 No Limit Hold’em tournament with a $2.5 million guaranteed prize pool. There were 1,469 entrants and the top 162 spots paid out. As expected, Mitchell took home an enormous paycheck, $322,500 to be exact. A long-time PocketFiver, Mitchell also won the $100 rebuy on PokerStars in August for over $60,000. Jagz7 joined Mitchell at the final table of Event #11, winning $21,000 for his ninth place finish.

The fourth ranked online tournament player, Dan djk123 Kelly was number one in the $200+16 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Turbo Event, pocketing $104,870. He finished in sixth in the $10,300 buy-in HORSE event as part of the most recent PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker for $59,375 and also won the $100 rebuy in September for $34,091. Bellagio Cup IV winner Mike SirWatts Watson finished third in the FTOPS event for $50,100. Coming in ninth place was havoj, who pocketed $6,199 for his efforts. The top 279 spots paid out and the tournament just edged out its $500,000 guarantee.

In Event #15, long-time number one player Cliff JohnnyBax Josephy defeated a field of 1,025 entrants en route to a $46,125 payday in the $200+16 Pot Limit Omaha High-Low tournament. A World Series of Poker bracelet holder in Stud, Josephy also finished as the runner up in the 2006 Aruba Poker Classic to Devon Miller. The holder of the 11th best Pro Poll ranking on PocketFives.com, Josephy is a Triple Crown winner and ranked #36. Jack Sevens and Gustav Langner also reached the final table of Event #15, finishing second and third, respectively.

In the $535 No Limit Hold’em Heads-Up Shootout, Greg DuckU Hobson, the 34th ranked player on PocketFives.com, defeated mendieta19 heads-up and won $87,000. He famously finished second in the $10,300 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event during the 2008 WCOOP for $459,030 and pocketed another $119,747 for third place in another WCOOP event this year. He’s already off to a fast start in November, pocketing $133,000 in tournaments that are tracked for the Rankings.

Amit amak316 Makhija took down the $5,200 buy-in 6-max event for $550,000. He’s had a productive live tournament showing in 2008, making the final table of the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em Championship during the WSOP for nearly $200,000 and also finishing as the runner up in the World Poker Tour’s Legends of Poker for over $500,000. Online, he won the $100 rebuy in March for $46,425 and won the Full Tilt Poker $100 cubed event for $19,300 in August.

Lastly, kutuz_off emerged victorious from a pack of 962 players in the $100+9 rebuy Pot Limit Omaha tournament (Event #23). He won $92,000, adding to his already impressive poker resume that includes a runner up finish in the $750K Guaranteed on Full Tilt Poker in September for $82,133 and a win in the Sunday Second Chance on Stars for $50,333 in March. Joining him at the final table was Cre8ive, who finished ninth.

Congratulations to all PocketFivers for an impressive showing in the Full Tilt Online Poker Series.
